Hi,
I am 21 and have been working for a local toy company as a website assistant since leaving school 3 years ago. I have an a-level in IT and lots of experience (hardware and software). I am currently trying to teach myself the MCDST 70-271 & 70-272 courses to take the exams later this year.
Basically, the company I am working for doesnt value staff, and isn't a very good company to work for, however I am paid an ok pay (£13,166). I am bored of the company and be treated quite poorly. I has a part time job doing exactely the same on £7.50 an hour and was offered the position full time, however the company had already gone bust once the previous year so was a bit unsure. In the end I asked my current employer for the same wage, to which he replied, "your not worth that much".
I am a very quick learner and would like a position in IT support or a similar role, maybe even website position again? Has anyone got any ideas of where companies would advertise these sort of jobs? I have tried jobcentreplus, jobstoday and fish4jobs with no success?
By the way I am near melton mowbray and would prefer to have a job with 15 miles of melton, leicestershire, or 15 miles of grantham, lincolnshire as we are looking at moving there this year anyway.
Cheers in advance for any help, Shane

Also, check your local paper and local government website as the council and local charities often have IT roles for people. They will more than likely be help desk orientated jobs, but you can often take on lots of other work too and this will give you lots of experience.
Charitites usually pay ok, but there is not a lot of room for development within the company - great stepping stones though.0 -
look for it help desk type jobs...... invariably people move of the help desks into other parts of the it department, especially if they are good enough and have their wits about them.....smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I am an IT recruitment consultant and the best websites to use are https://www.cwjobs.co.uk and jobsite and jobserve as listed below. Register your details with IT recruitment agencies, if you don't know where your local ones are, check out REC on http://rec.bucksnet.co.uk/search/ as they have an list of agencies who meet their standards.
HTH
P.S. A lot of IT agencies are like mine and recruit nationwide, so don't just limit it to your area.0 -

Cheers, Looked on cwjobs and found 3 or 4 local to apply for.

I'd say it was also worth pounding the streets and going into all the local agencies. If they don't appear to have 'your' kind of job, probably not a lot of point leaving your details.Signature removed for peace of mind0

That's cool. Have you given much thought to what you want to do? As you've said web development, but 2nd line support could be an option. What languages can you program in?
Have you thought much about your cv? I see a lot of cvs and I probably reject a lot of good candidates as they don't represent themselves well in their cvs.0
