Cost of commuting Via car

Hi,

Hope this is the right forum?
Currently my partner and I both work together in London and commute Via Train. However my partners job has been outsourced to another company and his job is being relocated to another location outside london. The location is about 40 mins away by car (Is not accessible by train from where we live..would have to do a 30min bus journey first).

We are trying to calculate costs of wear and tear through driving the car everyday. At the moment it only gets used on the weekends. Can someone advise roughly often things like Tyres, Brakes etc could possibly need replacing? I have no idea about these kind of things...I just have the annual service/Mot and usually everything is ok with it. Its an 04 Reg renault clio 1.2l engine..and how much does insurance go up if you add commuting to it?

Thanks for any help offered

    I don't know..

Just noticed that nobody had responded to your post - so thought would bump it up a bit and hope that someone in the know can help you.

    Good luck.

  • No problem....

    Assuming:
Service is 6000 miles and costs £70.
Tyres last 15000 miles at a cost of £200 for a full set.
Petrol is 86p per litre and it averages 40MPG.

Servicing costs work out at 1.1p per mile. Tyres work out around 1.3p per mile. Petrol at 9.7p per mile.

You've not posted how many miles it is so you need to work it out at 11.1p per mile.

In addition to that, there's the time related costs. Take the road tax, insurance and cost for MOT and divide it by 365. Add that to the total you get for the daily commute cost calculated using the per mile charge above.

It's hard to put in a cost for brake pads because it depends entirely on how its driven and where it's driven.

Insurance may go up with commuting but not a lot.
