Club La Costa (CLC) are indeed a timeshare or "Holiday Ownership" company.
I am a member (since 1999), previously via a fixed week at one of their resorts in Spain, now on a points basis. I must say, for me it works OK. I have always been able to book the locations I want at the times I want.
I know, however, that many people feel they were conned into buying unwanted or overpriced timeshares.
I think they have various sales offices in the UK and they have, er, interesting sales techniques.
My advice would be to take the freebie or whatever is offered (these can be difficult to claim and subject to all sorts of conditions) as long as you are able to resist the sales pitch. IF you actually are interested in the product then buy it through a reseller NOT direct from Club La Costa. If it is points they are selling (often in the guise of a 3 year trial membership) you can get them at 10-20 % of the CLC price on the 2nd hand market. There is a CLCmembers (completely indepedent of CLC) website if you are at all interested.
Oh, the 36 month thing means that they are not subject to a lot of the timeshare laws and regulations that were brought in to regulate the industry, but that only apply to contract of 3 years or more.
PM me if you have any specific questions. Not even wrong0 -

Maybe not purchase necessary - to go to the presentation that is. But you try leaving without signing up. Plus as advised above, by making a 36 month agreement it is not subject to the cooling off period.
My word of advice, be very very careful and don't get caught! Plus the words 'bargepole' 'would not touch with a' and '10 foot' come to mind.

Hmmm, reading these replies I think your right, thanks for being so honest, shame could of done with a free holiday !
thanks anyway0 -
Holidays should be for enjoyment and hassle-free experience - - - I can't associate any of this with something that starts with a compulsory trip to Maidenhead!0

Hi Sirboz
i went on a club la costa presentation at Lakeside in September 2002 (i like you had a phone call 1st) had to sit thru a 2hr+ presentation after loads & loads of pressure still didnt sign they then gave me a voucher for a free 3 day weekend break at Wychnor country park(also a time share complex) while we were there we were obliged to go to another 2hr+ presentation after more prssure we left without signing anything but had a voucher for free holiday at Sunset beach hotel Benalmedina Costa. after much hassle getting the flights & times we wanted we got a free weeks holiday at Sunset beach in easter 2003 (weekend break was in Feb) when we got there we had to go to the obligatory presentation. all in all we had a lovely 3 day break followed by a lovely week in Spain total cost £100approx which was the original admin fee. if you are firm & dont mind 8+ hours of intense pressure selling this is worth the hassle, i definately would do it again but be firm & make sure you get what is promised & definately do not buy anything,if you are tempted ask for the paper work so you can take it home to your solicitor(they always refuse this request)
hope this helps a little

i would go for this my mother in law is part of a time share thing but only through choice she was given a free holiday and refused to buy anything at all. The reps do tend to take 1 day out of your hol to try and sell you something but 1 day out for a free hol sounds good to me. Another friend of mine took the free hol and refused to discuss buying anything, and when the rep got shirty and asked why she had accepted the free hol if she wasn't going to buy and she just sid for the free holiday! So just go for it and sign nothing. alternatively agree to everyhting on day one get the reps off your back and then when you get home cancel everything throught the cool down period.May 2015 £10 a day currently £2080
