travel-insurance-web.com Warning

Many people probably remember the strike on 12 August 05 at Heathrow with BA and other airlines affected. I was delayed for two days and am still waiting for my claim to be paid from the above insurance company. Has anyone else had problems with this insurer? I also made a separate claim to BA and have yet to hear from them either.

  • we have had a similar experience while going to Barcelona in October... The French airspace decided to go on strike and our digicam got stolen...

just to say, this company is rubbish! OH has been fighting with them for 2 months before we saw the money.

BF sent delay travel form along with original receipts for the camera... 1 month later we got a letter informing us that our travel claim was accepted but that due tot he lack of receipts, the camera could not be covered. Now very interesting that they actually processed the travel form and never saw the receipts while they were in the same enveloppe? Plus add to that that the cheque they were referring to in that letter was missing!

So OH (bless) phoned them on their 0870 premium number (instead of using saynoto0870.com) from his oragne mobile phone (duh!) and after 25 minutes of being put on hold gave up and sent them an email explaining the situation.

We finally got refunded for the digicam and got our money... not until after OH made more phonecalls tot heir geographical number to be bounced around different companies!

Stay away from this Trave;-web-insurance, they are utter rubbish!

What I would say to you is use saynoto0870.com and do not take any !!!!!! from them! They will cough up eventually!

Thanks for sharing your experience... didn't sound like the best journey back or claim process with t-i-w. It seems I am not the only person to have similar problems with this insurance company. Apparently the delay was caused by them awaiting confirmation of the delay by the airline... despite the fact I sent documented evidence and it was hardly a non-event in the media. They are taking as long as possible in the hope I forget. I will also send off another letter to BA as they obviously have the same level of disregard for their paying customers. I had a look on saynoto0870 and got the alternative number!
  • Thanks for the warnings -I was toying with the idea off buying TI with them. I'll pass me thinks! Hopefully you'll get your claim sorted out soon.

I'm looking too....where IS the best place to buy from?
  • After reading recommendations here, I bought 2 Annual Worldwide policies from them. However, I had my wallet stolen on the way back from a trip over a month ago. During this period, I have requested a claim form (using telephone and online method) 4 times and it has yet to arrive!

I sent an email to their Customer Service department, and explained the above situation. Today they sent me a dopey reply stating - I should use the method above i.e. either via telephone or the website to request a claim form!!

I lost just under £150, however, I decided to claim and review the procedure and the frequency of settlement. I wonder what will happen when I really need the Insurance Company e.g. medical emergency etc.

    UPDATE: 20/1/06

I received the claim form this morning, the covering letter had my surname spelt completely wrong and there was no indication of the Policy Number(!) - not very professional so far...

Doesn't sound like you've had much luck so far johnnycab. And as you say, what if you had to claim for something such as a medical emergency? Or cancelled return flight? After what happened in the summer I now know you can't rely on the airlines and they will find some exclusion so they don't have to pay compensation. I was supposed to have heard by today at the latest from travel-insurance-web and unsurprisingly I haven't.

My advice: anyone thinking of buying a policy from this company shouldn't bother. Based on my experience they will not contact you and not provide the cover you've paid for. Seems others have had similar experiences. So much for an insurance policy being based on good faith.
  • Been looking for travel insurance for a few days now, got a quote from https://www.travel-insurance-web.co.uk and almost went for it but decided to check out if anyone had made any comments on here about it. Glad I did.

Whats worrying though is I have just got a quote from Columbus insurance (through GreasyPalm) and thought the site looked familiar. Checked out the address details on the Contact Us page, then checked out the same thing on the https://www.travel-insurance-web.com and would you believe it, they have the same address!!
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you

Always a problem with insurance companies - you never know until you've had to make a claim. Any tales of reasonably-priced insurance which has actually paid out promptly? (I'm with InsureAndGo, but never had to claim myself).

The saga continues. Travel-insurance-web will not pay the full amount as the airline will not substantiate the full delay I experienced (two days) only that I was delayed by less than one day. This is despite the fact I was originally offered a replacement flight several days later and I sent all the required information including boarding pass from the replacement flight. Apparently if Im not happy with this response, I have to contact the airline. Why should I? All this five months after my claim!
