Old Style Book - Wedding Dress - Other Uses

Options
Anyone got any ideas/tips on how to get some more use from wedding dresses? Turning them into ballgowns etc has been mentioned on the site but if anyone's got any other ideas/suggestions post them there please.

Thanks loads Sue

Buy a plain one that you can wear as an evening dress afterwards.

Sell it on ebay or through local paper ads, and use the money on something you need!

Keep it for a future daughter to wear.

2nd time aroudn I got wise & bought a regular trouser suit which I have used several times since....as a trouser suit:D

    OK, sensible suggestions :
Buy a 2 peice & wear the bodice/corset part with black trousers/long skirt for evening wear
Have the skirt shortened to wear as a cocktail dress
Have professionally dyed & wear as an evening dress.

My friend had her first wedding dress dyed a different colour and the length altered and then wore it second time around at the register office.

    Mine is my Princess Dress.

DD3 found my Tiara (My Crown) and its our secret. Not even Daddy knows that Mummy is a real Princess.

The Bridesmaids dress now fits her! So thats her Princess Dress and we play in them. (But I cant do mine up anymore....)

(And not a lot of play - I do want to keep them and probably sell them at some point!)

I've put mine away for my eldest daughter to wear as it's a beautiful classic design and not a meringue :D

The flowers however were treated very differently, I had a bouquet made of silk flowers and when eldest DD was born I made a mobile for her cot out of 2 coat hangers and the flowers from my bouquet :D

The train of mine was made into a Christening dress. Due to the style of my dress it is possibly for the remainder to be made shorter and made into a special summer dress-just not done it so far :o

The following was very risky but very moneysaving. I married abroad and had a blessing at home when I got back. Mum paid for the dress cleaned in between ceremonys, but the 2nd time it was upto me to pay. Skint cos we'd discovered DS was on way, it was put into wardrobe stained and forgotten about. When I had daughter 4 years later I had idea of turning dress into Christening robe, but didn't know if the material could be cleaned. Chancing it I put it in the washing machine inside a cream duvet cover and washed it on a delicate wash then hung it in garden to dry. It came out perfect.
Do this at your own risk.

Mine I made into a party dress for my daughter, my SIL's and several friends dresses I made into chritening robes several of which have now become heirloom dresses, I also made one into a romper suit for a little boy whose parents did not want him to be christened in a dress.

My daughters wedding dress was altered several times and lent to various friends along with her headress and veil, the veil eventually fell to bits after a brides father stood on it at the reception.............

I think I shall use mine as a guideline to what size I was when I was 21. I couldn't get into it now! Maybe it can be an incentive to get that weight down!
My sister got married 4 years ago, & she had a 2-piece wedding dress, in burgundy silk. She has never worn it since, but a couple of weeks ago, on New Years Eve DH & I went to a Murder Mystery party, set in the 1890s. I wore her silk skirt, with my crinoline petticoat from my wedding dress underneath it, with a blouse & shawl & really looked the part!
