Which MP3?

Options
Hi all,

Just wondering if you techies could share your wisdom with me and give me some advice on which MP3 player to go for. My iPod has just packed up, luckily under the guarantee and curry's (where it was originally purchased) have agreed to an exchange no problem. I was reluctant to go for an iPod again due to battery issues and the fact it lasted less than a year but when I looked at the which guide the latest generation 30GB iPod came up as best? With the Sony NW H5 following as second best choice.

So it's between:

30GB iPod
Sony NW HD5
Creative Zen

also the Philips HD 6320 has been suggested to me as it has a big capacity 30GB but is quite compact and I think it has a radio which would be quite good.

So any opinions gratefully received!!

    :hello:

I would personally go for the Creative Zen because, in my opinion, Creative have are very good - they have a great reputation.

Alternatively, if you can get your money back, you may consider purchasing an iRiver - apparently they are very similar to iPods but from a different company - the reviews look good... http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002DCJP4/qid=1137268479/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/026-0714017-2389265 There are quite a few different versions so may be worth looking into.

  • Hi
IRiver for me, H140, remote control, which you can do everything from, voice recorder, radio which is not bad, plays all types of music files, don't need any software just drag and drop and you don't even need a pc, as you can record straight to it, just plug in cd player, tape etc. I've had mine just under a year, dropped it, bashed it, (not on purpose) very sturdy and still going strong, mine is 40gbs. They have brought new versions out now. Never used them but supposedly excellent support, if you break them within the warranty, apparently they just send you a new one.

And of course the sound is excellent, on all settings, and theres loads to choose from.

As you can guess I love mine, :j wouldn't do without it, but there are lots to choose from now, and it all depends on how much money you've got to spend.

    Hope this helps

  • Cheers for the above. iRiver does look good, I might see if they'll give me a refund and check out some more reviews.

I have a friend who has the iRiver and he loves it. It's great for taking away with you (he went travelling) becuase it just plugs into any XP machine without and software/drivers and you can just drag+drop more mp3s onto it (as mentioned by someone above).

I have been having a read about the sony - mainly becuase it looks so damn nice! But I've heard the software for transfering files to it is a bit hit-and-miss.
  • I've had iRiver products in the past (MP3 CD player, flash MP3 player) and can't praise them highly enough. Cracking products which are top quality build and very easy to use, along with plenty of firmware updates on their website.

If you can get an iRiver then I would recommend it; failing that, the Creative Zen is the best of the rest.
