I thought I'd post this in case any of you were on the lookout for an easy access savings account paying a decent rate:
Cahoot are to launch a new easy access savings account paying 4.85%, according to the Money Mail website. It looks very much like the account they were running up to the end of last summer.
The account will be available to new and existing customers and will be launched on January 17. Cahoot will pay 4.85% on all balances between £1 and £250,000.
Here's a link to the article.
Newcastle Building Society currently offer a savings account called 'Newcastlenet savings issue 4' paying 4.9% gross on balances from £1+.

Anyone applying - don't forget that you can usually make some money when signing up for a savings account via a Cashback site.
Currently, Cahoot figures highest on
Quidco - £25
TopCashBack - £25
Other cashback sites have Cahoot, too, but for less money
Read the Cashback site T&Cs if you haven't used them before - but important to understand that it can take 2-3 months on any of the sites before you get paid.0 -
That link to Quidco takes you to a page which says:
£20 for first accepted application for credit cards, savings or current accounts.
£25 for each accepted application for savings accounts
Maybe I'm a bit thick, but both mention savings account - what's the difference? Is the £20 for a FIRST application of any account type? If so it sounds like you get more for second account opening.0 -
Strange.........I see:
£20 for first accepted application for credit cards, current account, flexible or fixed loan
£25 for each accepted application for savings accounts0 -
Blimey, they must be watching this site!
My previous posting was cursored-and-copied direct from their page so it definately DID say "savings" in both.
.... and I've just discovered that the pop up window is still open on my PC - YUP it definately said "£20 for first accepted application for credit cards, savings or current accounts." and no mention of loans.
It has indeed been changed since then.0 -
thanks Kazza242 and innovate. I shall be applying for this with the Quidco £25 on the 17th0

I wonder if they will be cutting the rates on their other accounts as 4.85% is the lower than the others (last summers bonus one is still 5.30% as far as I know).0

If history is anything to go by, they won't (I hope!!). But may be they're into a full 'makeover'?

ericpode, behind you, behind you!!!
Quite possible that one of the Quidcos was 'watching' - there was a similar prob with their website today on the cashback for the A&L current account.
Big sigh of relief from me on account that my earlier post was correct - I hate to admit mistakes0 -
I hope the special cahoot account rate does not get cut to 4.85% from 5.3% !0
