Condensation in the loft!!!

Options
I had my loft insulated in the summer, and now the weather has become colder and i have the heating on, i have noticed that i have lots of condensation on the inside of the roof space, which is then dripping onto everything in the loft. Is there anyway of stopping this????

you may find that when they installed your loft insulation, they layed it to close to edge of the roof, where the trusses come down and rest on the walls of the house.

There should be gaps here to allow the roof space to breathe ect, so the best thing is to nip up there and just move it back from the edges of the roof space to allow air to circulate in the roof space.

    hope this helps!

This was discussed also in this thread: water coming through loft? .

It is worth checking where the moisture comes from. Water tanks? Warm air penetrating through gaps in the loft hatch?
  • Assuming it is not coming from leaking roof - then condensation is the most likely cause which indicates that the air flow in the roof space is not good enough.
If there was no such problem before then chances are the air flow was interrupted by your recent insulation work and needs to be put right before you get other problems caused by the now damp air.
Bruce2110's suggestion seems reasonable - did you find the insulation blocking the joist ends when you investigated?

The insulation is right to the ends, so going to move it slightly so that (hopefully) it will let some air circulate. The drips are all over the roof so im sure that it is condensation, im just hoping that this will help, so thank you everyone for your help

I have exactly the same problem after increasing the amount of loft insulation in our loft this year.

Also check whether the loft is vented sufficiently.
I know ours is not so i am going to fit some of these as soon as the weather improves a bit

Who ever insulated your loft should have made sure there is sufficient ventilation to it.

Our loft was insulated last summer and they fitted special plastic spacer vents which squeeze in behind the felt and create an air gap. It will be the cheapest option.
