Replacement Laptop Screen

My son has just dropped one of our laptops  . It is/was an Acer 5633. He was sat with it on his knee and he coughed and for some reason brought his knees up every time he coughed which wobbled the laptop off his knee and it hit the corner of the hearth thus breaking the laptop screen. The casing hasn't broken and DH has had experience of successfully replacing a broken LCD screen in our digital camera. Screens are available from eBay and there are some reasonably cheap 15.4" screen but they are made by Philips, Samsung or LG.
Do any of you guys know if the connections on these screens, which obviously aren' t acer, will fit my acer laptop? If so, it means I can probably get a replacement screen for somewhere around £70-£80 compared to the £160 Acer seem to charge for replacement LCD screens, not to mention the length of repair time it would take.
Hoping you guys can advise.;)

I wouldnt be surprised if the screen in the acer isnt made by acer, but by one of the big screen makers - like samsung. As to the connections, im not sure.0

I fix laptops day-in day-out.
While there are several makes and models of 15.4" screen, there are only two types of connections that are common. Because of the myth that every laptop needs a specific screen retailers - like the ones in the Ebay links - do not give actual model numbers of the screens they are selling to keep the price up.
Your only mission is to find out what your screen actually is, and get one compatible. Let me know your model number of screen and I'll point you in the right direction.0 -
Philips, Samsung and LG are three of the "big five" companies that make LCD panels which are rebadged as many different brands. THere's not that many companies making them. It's quite possible your Acer uses one of those seeing as Acer don't actually make screens or in fact any of the components but get OEMs to.0

Looks as though 5bellies will be able to help a lot.
But, if you need any other guidance, I also have an Acer laptop and in the past have found the guys at the Acer Laptop Forum friendly and helpful on Acer-specific problems.
It is here

This search on Ebay?0 -
Saw them on Ebay earlier but I thought that someone might have known about other suppliers.
The screen is for my brother ( who has just moved house ) and he won't have a clue what his ebay / paypal passwords are to change the delivery details etc as they're on his dead laptop so I was hoping to get some links to somewhere he could order over the phone etc.
If ebay's the only option I'll get one through my account..0 -

It's not your only option but, quite frankly, it is the cheapest.
A large number of the big official parts suppliers have gone bust in recent years, leaving the market flooded with good parts at knockdown prices. The few remaining 'big boys' will quote you a lot more for the same part, but most of the medium sized dealers are now touting on Ebay.0 -
Guys
You don't need to use ebay and you don't need to pay a fortune for a brand new genuine replacement screen.
Checkout these boys
laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk
We use them at our workshop they are really cool, they will take anything back as well if there is a problem or u make a mistake. Prices similar to ebay!!! But great support and backup and real people to talk to as well.
Try them0
