Tesco Home Phone Arrears Letter

I have just received a Tesco Home Phone Arrears letter through the post for £15.49. I used to be a customer of theirs 19 months ago but am not anymore due to their considerable and continued lack of customer service.

I have not had any letters before this advising me that I owed them an outstanding amount.

Does anybody know if, after 19 months of my service contract ending I have to pay?

They are threatening debt collection agency if I do not pay within 4 weeks.

Have they said how you come to owe them this amount? They must be able to back it up otherwise it won't stand up in court. Write and dispute the amount. If they refer it to a debt collection agency write to the collection agency saying the amount is in dispute. As you know, Tesco Home Phone admin is a shambles so who knows if you really owe the money or not?

You certainly can be chased for money owed 19 months after the service contract ending. The debt only becomes statute barred if it has been dormant for 6 years.

Did you cancel the service with them? As in notified them? Or did you simply just cancel a direct debit?

We need the full story with regards to what you did with the service & your contact with them before anyone could advise anything more concrete

ANY debt is recoverable for up to 6 years after the date in which it is claimed to have occurred. This is because any potential legal action after this period would be time-barred, and therefor unenforceable.

I have just recieved the same letter, I have not had an account with them for years!

  • I have also received a letter from them out of the blue requesting payment for 15.63 from January 2007. The complete lack of detail and threat of the collection agency said it all about the approach of Tesco Home Phone. I am waiting for a callback from their complaints department but view this as a despicable approach to customer service. What legal approach is possible? Or is a media/internet approach better?

That thread is a bit older and the OP admits they owe the money. These letters seem to be different in that the posters say they do not owe the money and the Tesco computer has made the amounts up.
  • Hi to all complaining regards THP letters. The letter you are all receiving are for failed direct debit whilst you used this service or you cancelled you direct debit before the final bill was paid. Obviously you dont check your bank statements to check if you have made the payments. If someone owed you money, would you chase them for it.
