See what you lot think, said they have done work then denied it....
DP got a call yesterday, his car went in to get the seats sorted as where seats moved the leather was coming off, to say 'we're just letting you know how much you will need to bring for your service we have done as your car is ready to be collected' he pointed out on the phone he had not asked for a service.
Anyway when he got there he said 'well you will need the book to stamp it' the woman said 'oh we haven't serviced it so it still needs doing in xx miles or in May whichever comes sooner' well sorry I think somethings not quite right there. I think they have serviced it and just want him to pay again to get it done because they knew they couldn't charge him yesterday.
Do you think I should go back and have it out with them? I think they are being dishonest. I'd like to know exactly what they have done to his car. There is also oil all over the engine bay which he's a bit unhappy with (obsessed with cleaning it inc detailing the engine bay)
Realisticially speaking this could mean a 'free' service if they have done it, saving us quite a lot of money, but what has really annoyed me is if they wanted to charge us for a service initially then denied doing it.

One day I might be more organised...........

erm I think I understood the post - sort of - I would take it to a different garage - check your oil level and oil filter is on ok and don't go back to them again. if its a free service then greatDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
-
Look at your air filter, if the service was done, it'll be new0
-
If they have done it and you want them to stamp the book, presumably you will be happy to pay them for the service?
If they've done it in error, and know they can't charge you, then they won't want to stamp the book.0 -

What's the problem?
Either there's:
1) Been a communication problem and the person who rang assumed it had been in for a service when it had actually had the seat repair so no service was done
or,
2) It was serviced by accident and they realised they had done and couldn't charge for it.
So, DP has paid for the work they asked to be done whether or not a service took place. DP has not been ripped off in any way because they haven't paid for work that wasn't asked to be done.
HOW ARE THEY GOING TO GET HIM TO PAY AGAIN FOR SOMETHING THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE OR DP HASN'T BEEN CHARGED FOR IF IT HAD? Surely to pay for something again, you must have been charged for it in the first place?
You're just trying to wangle a free service out of them.0 -
Probably upset because he will have to pay for a service in May or XX miles which does not need doing because it has just been done for free
Now, that's real moneysaving. 0 -
look at the oil filter
it should be obvious if its just been replaced0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Went back and spoke to service manager who wasn't there yesterday evening who apologised, said it had been serviced and had the warranty book stamped, therefore saving us £130. If he'd said yes it's been done but we can't stamp the book or you can pay for it and we will, that would have also been ok with me.
My main issue was, they lied! All resolved now, service manager who was extremely angry that the staff had tried to cover up their mistake (a service done when it wasn't requested-several hours put down by a mechanic, parts used and noone paying) in his absence by lying to a customer was dealing with it as we left.
My partner being an ex mechanic we usually do our own cars but for the first time we have a nearly new car under warranty so services have to be done at a garage. One day I might be more organised...........
