Sound too good to be true... but apparently Fujitsu Siemens Computers are offering a new laptop every three years if you take our a 3yr warranty.

Looks good, but how much is the warranty? and are all the laptops on the link called"lifebooks"? as they are the ones covered by the offer but I cant see thatname in the descriptions.0

wow - interesting idea. I had a quick look at the t&c's, and the one that concerned me the most is that if you don't have the replacement in 3 years you forfeit the right to do so in the future. I just wonder how strict they'd be on timing, would they give a reasonable window of time and would they remind you or would you have to remember to apply? Perhaps too many dodgy mobile phone cashback deals have made me cynical!
The other assumption of 10% increase in value every 3 years could be a bit of a worry too - if inflation runs much above 3% in any year, then future purchasing power for replacements will be lost.
I suppose as poet123 says, the cost of the warranty is the most significant detail. If that wasn't prohibitive, it might be pretty tempting, especially for a 16 yr old for whom a lifetime deal would hold real value!
Only other thing that occurs to me is swapping over machines - would they let you have both old and new for a short period of time to transfer all software and data?0 -
sounds intresting maybe worth looking into and yes you would need both machines for awhile or you will have to buy an spare hardrive for your software0

v interested in this...if they are expecting a replacement every 3 years, the warranty would not need to be too high from their end to be able to fulfil at a fair price...it all depends on how fair they are willing to be!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. These are the terms and conditions. Looking at point 6 you send back the notebook before they send you the new one out! This being the case you would need to have the external hard drive to save anything from it on and also you would be without a laptop for how ever long it takes them to 'check' the old one and send you a new one out! Not sure it would be worth the hassle?0 -
The basic warranty seems to be only £55.
Not sure if you have to buy the 3yr warranty for years 4,5&6 though.0 -
Fujitsu Siemens Computers won't be around for the rest of our lives, anyway.
I just checked - it was only set up nine years ago. How long before it goes bust or gets bought up by someone else?0 -
probably not, seems a lot of hassle0

I guess they sell on your old laptop, so make some money back from your old laptop. They must be hoping that the second hand laptops will fetch enough to cover the manufacturing price of the new ones.
For instance, if a £1000 laptop actually costs £500 to make, and sells for £600 in 3 years time, they've actually still made £100 profit...
