XL ccc says NO!

I booked a holiday with XL to kos through co-operative travel. I decided to claim through my CCC (Halifax) as I thought it would be easier and quicker. i sent all the paperwork in and they have today sent me a letter stating:

'As your booking was made through a travel company, and not direct to XL or its assocaited companies, we have been advised by ATOL that you should contcat your travel agent in the first instance regarding a claim through the CAA'

Is this right - I thought the CCC was jointly responsible. As it's saturday I can't speak to anyone at the CCC disputes dept or the co-operatibve travel customer services.

HELP please!!!

Yes, I think the info they gave you is correct. It's only when you book direct with the airline that you claim off your credit card company.

Maybe someone more expert will be a long in a mo' with further advice.

I think the information is correct to a point. If you booked with XL direct then credit card have to do the refund as you have no point of contact. However if you booked through a travel agent (like co-op) then you should speak to them, as travel agents should refund the customer and then they go after ATOL for the money (that is why some travel agents offered customers alternative holidays even if they hadn't initially booked there, as they can claim on the customer's behalf).

However, there is the thing about the CCC being jointly liable; although I can't advise as I don't really understand it in this case (i'm sure someone else on the forum can).

P.S. I know your situation is very frustrating, and sympathise, but one post would have been enough
