We are going to the caribbean in January and wondered what meals and drinks we are likely to get on board? Is there any freebies??

  • Hi jimbolad - I have flown long haul with Thomson/First Choice (they are now the same company) a number of times. In my experience, you'll get 1 free meal and 1 free snack with free tea, coffee, squash etc to go with these.

On the just under 6 hour flight to Cape Verde Thomson served up a starter of a small pot of pasta with sauce, then sausage and mash with a sponge for pudding. Food was accompanied with tea/coffee

they do come round selling drinks including bottled water at extortionate prices before they serve the meal but if you go to the galley and ask they will give you a glass of water at any time, that'll save you a few quid!
  • Also if booking and the option explicitly exists, don't bother paying for the meal, save the extra £12 or whatever it is, on long haul everyone get a meals. Its only only non long-haul where it is selective. At least this has been my experience over last few years of long-haul charter.

I think with something like that you'll get 2 meals, one usually smaller - this is how it is with charter to india which I think similiar duration. Drink service every hour or so. Make sure you buy a large bottle of water once through security to remain hydrated (boots always cheaper than WHSmiths at main UK airports), I'd personally buy two as once you arrive it could be a number of hours before you've gone through security, got bags, waited for everyone else on the coach and finally got to your AI destination.
