Please Help!
My husband has been having problems with his lap top computer for a few weeks now. The screen keeps freezing and the keyboard is unresponsive.
Switched it on last night and the screen froze immediately. Turned it off and then back on again. Now we have a black screen and its not loading up. There is power getting to it because you can see a green light. When you take the power supply out you get an orange light to indicate you are running on battery.
What can I do? And how much is this likely to cost? Bearing in mind that it's Christmas and I am already on a hiding to skint.

Mmmm sound like their could be a hardware problem with the display adapter/card.
The Battery thing just means the battery is dying mine only lasted 6mths
just means you will have to run it off the mains.0 -
How long have you had the device and where did you purchase it from? Has the warranty expired or can you still claim on it?
If you bought it from some where like Dell, they will usually be able to repair it out of the warranty for a small charge. Research it, and see if it would be very much more expensive to buy a new laptop than get it fixed.
Thanks, tigermatt

When you say black screen, do you mean no bios text when you start it? What model is it?
Try removing the battery, and anything else that comes out (e.g CD-rom/floppy drive if removeable), reseat the ram memory sticks, reseat the hard disk, put a fair bit of pressure with the palm of your hand all over the keyboard, to push in any loose chips on the motherboard, turn off suspend options in Windows/bios. If you still get a completely black screen, try putting an external screen on and use the hotkeys (varies depending on model, Fn+F8 on Dells) to turn on the dual-display.
Try running it with the battery removed..
If you still have nothing on screen, and it is out of warranty, it will probably cost an arm and a leg to repair..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
