Oyster Gold card query
My DS has an annual travel pass for zones 1 & 2 and a 16 - 25 railcard. He has now been sent a Gold Record Card. We are struggling to find any information about whether or not the Gold Record card is of any value. I know that you can save 1/3 on National Rail tickets during off peak times in London and South East but wonder are there any savings to be made for travel to and from North West?
The website says "Gold Card holders can buy a Network Railcard for a relative or friend for just £1, a saving of £19 on the full price. A Network Railcard offers similar reduced prices to those available to Gold Card holders" Does anyone know if this can be used for travel to and from the North West.

No and No.
The discount is only on journeys within the old Network South-East region. A map of the area is here - http://www.railcard.co.uk/clientfiles/File/Network%20Railcard%20area%20map(2004).pdf0 -
The gold card is however very useful (within the south east.... as far as Worcester, Northampton, Bedford, Huntingdon, Kings Lynn, etc).
There will be a few fares where it is 10p cheaper to use the gold card as opposed to the 16-25 railcard, but thats about it.
Getting a network railcard for just £1 is always a good bet, however.
Where in the north west does he usually head to, and does he go for a day or longer?0 -
