Suppliers fleecing Wii Fit customers

Options
Having been looking for a Wii Fit, I noticed that the suppliers who do have it choose to fleece their customers by making them buy bundles with extra items. I decided to contact one of these companies - Dixons - and enquire about this behaviour. This is my message to Dixons

I've been looking around for a Wii Fit, and noticed you had them in stock.
However, I'm not happy that you choose to fleece your customers of extra
money. I refer to the fact that you refuse to sell the unit on its own, but
force the customer into buying items they do not want due to making it only
available in a bundle.
Dixons sent the following reply:

Thank you for your email dated 22nd September 2008. I understand you are
enquiring about the Nintendo Wii Fit bundles we have in stock.

All our package offers are supplied from the manufacturer in these bundles,
we are unable to split the bundle unless the manufactures says so. On this
occasion, the manufacturer has decided to sell the item in a bundle.

I then contacted Nintendo, as they are the supplier to see if the above were the case. Here is their reply:

Nintendo do not sell our products as a bundle nor do we require retailers to sell our products as such. These bundles are put together at a store level and are a retailers decision. This is why you can often see, for example, different bundles at different stores and also bundles which include non-Nintendo developed/published games.

So it would appear that Dixons, and I'm sure the other guilty suppliers are taking advantage of consumers.

I have now bought a Wii Fit from Argos, where it's been sold on it's own with no budled extras. Found it courtesy of the following site: http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!.co.uk/Wii-Fit.aspx

  • Shopto gave the same reason about their bundles. Apparently they cannot split them and offer single units of Wii Fit because the way Nintendo supply them.

It's obvious that the retailers are the ones who put togehter these bundles though, otherwise all shops would have the same bundles on offer wouldnt they.
