help with dentist

hi I had a bad expeierence at a private dentist.I had my wisdom tooth which was growing the wrong way and as it was really sore I had to go to the dentist.:'(
The visit was £35 and it was £5 for ezch x-ray ,he did 4 but said i could not keep them I could only have copies!then he said he had to take three teeth out and each was £40!I was a bit cheeky and asked if there was discount for 3 teeth and he said he would pop out and ask his partner.He came back after 5 seconds and said his partner agreed to do 3 teeth for price of 2.What a crook!How many people had he ripped before me?how serious could he be?not very!Anyway as it was really sore he did one anestethic on bottom right and 3 on top as they were not working!At the end he said that he had broken another tooth by mistake and said that it happens sometimes and he would repair it for free.my cheek is still swollen two days later and my mouth bled for about four hours and was numb for nine as he did 3 anesthetics.do you think I should have paid for other teeth ?I don't know but I' m going again to repair the other teeth on friday.help please :-[

You don't have to pay if you can get referred to your local hospital, I did this and didn't have to pay a penny.

:-/ I wonder why our dentist always appear to be like this, when in Australia and America the dentist are much more fun places...I was always scared stiff, thoughts of the old school dentist etc, other countries seem to make the children relaxed etc and we always seem to be able to spot Americans etc by their good teeth, what will it take to get our NHS or private service up to the best standard, the above posting seems like a nightmare and Im sure you have all our best wished, one is helpless and can only agree to what ever the dentist advises as best course of action. LETS HOPE YOU HEAL QUICKLY.

My cheek is still a bit swollen but the pain has nearly gone.still it wasn't a nice experience at that dentist as he broker my tooth and ripped me of £135 in half an hour!Do you think that I should have paid for the treatment even though he broekr my tooth?Would you insist in getting the x rays?
I am going to go to another dentist to finish my treatment but wonder if i could make fun of the killer dentist and ask him what discount he could give me if i do all the treatment wit him?At the end of the last torture he had printed off a series of appointments for a total of £535.As if i would take taht on?Have you ever heard of any other dentist who do do 3 for the price of two?It's like a supermarket.Maybe I should ask if he has any other offers available?Like buy one get one free what do you think? ;D

Hi, I work in the NHS and our fee list actually does pay for four extractions for the price of three - so it really isn't that unusual! The dentist legally owns the xrays and would be stupid not to keep them for many years (for legal reasons). He was right to offer you copies for your own use and this would normally be charged for as it costs time and money to copy them. That said, it doesn't sound as though you have much confidence in this particular dentist so you should probably go to someone else by way of recommendation from a friend or family member. Unfortunately people don't often enjoy a visit to the dentist and the fact that we get charged for it doesn't go down well, especially when we're used to getting all other healthcare for free. I do hope your mouth gets better quickly, if it's any consolation it is normal to have some swelling after extraction of wisdom teeth but it shouldn't last long.

If possible, get an NHS dentist. I don't trust the private ones. I went to a private dentist who told me I needed 6 fillings! It would have cost hundreds. I managed to get a good NHS dentist thankfully, and went for a check up... guess what. No fillings. I've been to the same dentist for over 2 years now. Guess what - still no fillings, and no tooth ache; pearly white gnashers. In that time I've also had a wisdom tooth extracted by another dentist, who presumably would have spotted if I'd had a mouth full of cavities! Hmmm, I think the private dentist was trying to make money...
