Overcharging with 05pence

I just received my Virgin Media bill and found these three calls on it.
Date of calls Time of calls Call destination Number called Duration mins:secs Excl. VAT £.p
Mon 01 Sep 11:33 Spec Serv 08442050505 7:00 £0.66
Mon 01 Sep 11:41 Spec Serv 08442050505 17:00 £1.51
Mon 01 Sep 12:11 Spec Serv 08442050505 7:00 £0.66
This is the access code for 05pence's Uk landline number and should have cost 0.5p per min plus the connection charge. As you can see what I've been charged substantially more than that. I've emailed the company for an explanation but have yet to receive a reply. As I don't have fully itemised bills from Virgin I can't tell exactly what numbers were dialled but I assumed that if you input a number that is not connected to the tariff then you will be informed and told another number to dial. I also have no idea whether any calls that i made for under 50p were correctly charged.
Has anyone had this problem or have any advise on how to deal with it? I've never had reason to doubt these charges before but would hate to think I've been being diddled over a period of time with no comeback!
Cheers
Brian

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Thanks I'll have a read.0

It's been going on for some time and, frankly, it makes me wonder whether they try it on from time to time to see if they can get away with it.
Here's another couple of threads from 2006:

I'm still a bit confused. Is that thread saying that it's Virgin Media's fault and that there is no comeback as they didn't route the call properly? Unlike the other person the number registered was the 0844205 number and the Virgin rate for that is 1p per min.
Anyway, will try to get an explanation from customer services0 -
Cheers for that. Our posts crossed. More for me to read.0

In summary, VM have charged incorrectly and should refund you the difference between what they've charged for those calls (50p or £0.50 per minute) and what they should have charged (0.5p of £0.005 per minute).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Just been on to Virgin and they're going to do exactly what you've said and refund the difference. He's also going to pass the matter over to the faults department and give me a call back with the result.
Thanks very much for you prompt help. Much appreciated. Will let you know if I get any interesting info back from the Customer Advisor. Off to the pub now to spend my refund!! Every little helps.
Cheers

Just had call back. No info on overcharge, but as a show of goodwill he's given me a £13 a month discount on my bill. Funnily enough I've been meaning to phone them for some time, as I pay full whack and have been with them for some time , and ask them if there were any deals I could get. No need now. Result! Even more money for the Pub now .
Thanks again

It looks more like they charged 10 pence a minute, with 7.5 pence connection charge
