A sub-board for the Diaries

:hello:

I love reading people's diaries, and I actually have one myself, but I was wondering if it would be better to have a sub-board under DFW for everyone's diaries.

I have noticed that posts from newbies on DFW and other posts requesting help are getting pushed to the bottom of the pages more quickly due to diaries.

Im not saying we should stop diaries by any means, as I have said before they are a great idea, and not only a motivational tool for the author, but for other people on this site.

Just wondering what you think about this? And would it be possible?

  • This has been debated many many times including input from martin himself and each time it's been voted to keep the diaries on the main board.

I agree Amy it would be better, some days there are hardly any posts for help due to challenges, diairies etc etc and there are a lot of us that think that way but we get shouted down.
  • As much as i like readnig through everyones diaries and writting in my own I agree with Amy and Rayday2 that maybe a sub-board would be a good idea. As unless you time in right someones "cry for help" could easily disappear to the 2nd or even the 3rd page after people have updated their challenges and diaries.

  • Yes, the cries for help do sometimes just disappear on to pages 2,3,4. That feeling of sheer panic is so awful, but the support I have received when I've been crying 'help' has been truly invaluable. In my humble newbie opinion it would be brilliant if 'help I'm sinking' posts could be somehow prioritised. But as I say I'm new so don't listen to me!
Hope you're all well today X

Don't talk like that! New people are the life of any forum, anyone who has been around for ages knows what MSE is about its the new people that are vital to the spirit. So your opinion should be loud and proud!

I think you'd be pushed to find a request for help un-replied to beyond page 2. Many posters (me included) go looking for posts that have no replies, just to make sure they're not ignored.

The problem is, if you take the diaries away, you'll take some of the readers to another board, and the diary readers (and authors) are also the ones who answer the cries for help. This mixing pot does work, but if you become aware of an unanswered post slipping down that needs an answer, even if you don't know the answer, you can bump it back to page one easily enough.

I agree that some of the readers will go into the other forums, but i dont soley come on here to read diaries, i try and help too.

I think people will flit between the two, but then again I cant say for sure.

Anyway, I didnt know this had been discussed at length before, feel free to ignore. :o

tis same old argument... I started to post my reasons against a sub board, but I am really tired and grumpy today so I just thought I would say I disagree and leave it at that.....:o
