Tyre Advice

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some tyre advice.
Basically I need to replace the 4 tyres and I currently have 205/60R16 V91 on the car.
I've spoken to a couple of garages all saying different things such as go for the same size but H rated, others have said go for 205/55R16? In all honesty everyone I speak to tells me something different
Can anyone please give me any advice as to what's best to do? If it helps I have a Renault Scenic 1.9 DCI.

The safest bet, especially if you're not sure, is to go with the tyre size that was on the car when it was new (assuming you have the same wheels). This will be in the handbook.
Then go to blackcircles.com or mytyres.co.uk to get a decent price.Can I help?0 -
I'd go with the manufacturer's original equipment specification and get a quote from a Renault dealer. My experience is that main dealers are very competitive on tyres. Reducing the speed rating is not to be recommended as the vehicle and tyre combination is specified for a reason, its not just about how fast you are going to drive.0

The Protyre website (http://www.protyre.co.uk/) claims it can tell you what tyres should be on your vehicle if you give it the registration number. Of course, that assumes the roadwheels haven't been changed, and I've no idea where they're getting their data from (last customer order for that vehicle? the manufacturer?)0

WhatI say here is subject to you checking whether it is legal or recommended or the wheels have been changed.
A quick check of mytyres show that there is only one tyre listed in V rating in the same size as you quoted you have @ £108 each plus fitting.
If you drop to an H rating (which should be more than adequate...please check though) then you have a choice of 5 from £48 - £108.
If you then change it to H rating 205/55R16 you have a choice of 33 ranging from £51 - £101.
So you can see how the difference in size can have a huge effect on availability. As has been said you need to check what should be on the car. A quick google says the size you have on it is correct (please double check) and an H rating covers you upto 130mph your car has a quoted top speed of 118mph so as I stated earlier H should be OK but again please check.
Remember if you go for a different ratio ie 55 v 60 then your speedo will be inaccurate.0 -
I'd be happier increasing the number or letter - reducing is not such a good idea. There are plenty of V92 and V96 rated tyres in your size available.
If you are near Leeds my local fitter has just beaten mytyres and blackcircles for two tyres.

Still worth trying them. My local Mazda dealer was substantially cheaper than the internet dealers or the 'tyre specialists'.0 -

Yes but that might be unnecessary expense if the car is normally fitted with H rating and not V rating. Sometimes the buyer will just happen to buy a higher rating tyre for whatever reason. OP needs to check what the dealer/manufacturer recommends.0
