Is there anything you wish you hadn't decluttered?

I just wondered if, in a fit of decluttering, you got rid of something you now wish you hadn't. In my case, a few years ago I gave away a really nice chest freezer as I was buying a smaller fridge/freezer to better fit my kitchen. Today with a glut of fruit and veg in the garden I know I could've found a home for it somewhere - spare bedroom maybe - and dearly wish I still had it. Am now looking for free or cheap similar to replace it.
The other thing is that I bought a posh frock for a posh do about 4 years ago and then decided to get rid as I'm not a posh do sort of person so thought someone else could get more wear out of it. Almost immediately I was invited to an 80th birthday posh do - I so wish I hadn't sent it to the charity shop. However, amazingly enough, when going through some bags and boxes, there it was, I'd obviously forgotten to take it. It was ideal for the party, I was so glad I hadn't sent it to the charity shop.
Has anyone else any similar experiences that maybe we could all learn from? And has anyone got a small chest freezer they don't want!!!

Yes.
When we moved into our house 4 years ago, the previous owners had left all the curtains. We decorated our back room 2 years ago and the curtains that were up were a yucky colour so we freecycled them. Unfortunately, the ones we have now are unlined and the yucky ones were fully lined big thick ones. Wish I'd kept them just to use during winter months as we are now trying to insulate the house a bit more :)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -
Yes I threw away Mick Jaggers signature - what a dumbo!0

A few years ago I was going to move into a flat that had a yellow and green kitchen, and happened to see five metres of fabulous yellow tomato fabric on ebay that I thought would be perfect for curtains and bits and pieces. It was lovely fabric (it sounds weird, but it was huge botanical drawings of yellow tomatoes on cream fabric, really good quality thick glazed cotton) and I think I only paid about £7 in total for it. Unfortunatly the flat fell through and I carted this fabric around with me for ages, feeling guilty every time I looked at it. Eventually I gave it to a charity shop but I've regretted it ever since, as I've since lived in places where it would have been perfect ... Oh well ...0

I tend to declutter and give things away to family and clothes to charity......I always find myself regretting it for lot of stuff that I give away as always tend to need need very soon after.
Just this morning whilst in the shower I was trying to decide what to wear to work and thought I could wear a purple 3/4 length dress I have with a cardigan over it over black trousers....sorted (or so I thought!!)
Went to the wardrobe - couldn't find it, checked the other non hanging shelves until it dawned on me....I gave it to charity when I started wearing a scarf as I wasn't into layering then - now I am majorly into layering and am regretting giving away all the short sleeve/sleeveless tops and dresses I had!!
Then people wonder why I prefer to hoard in the garage!!!!!!0 -
I'm so unable to get rid of things, luckily I have a huge loft and everything goes in there.I have clothes that I wore when I was 16 that my 17 year old granddaughter found and fell in love with. They're now back in fashion and she wears them and when complimented tells everyone they are vintage grandma.
I have so much stuff up there that her friends asked if I had a shop or something as everytime they asked her where she got something "new" from she always says grandma's.I even found 3 pairs of Biba boots, she almost ripped from my hands when I showed them to her.
It does'nt stop at clothes though I have loads of household and craft stuff, books and records ect.My family always check first before buying something just incase I have what they are looking for.
To be honest I think I hoard stuff because of the memories a lot of it brings, sad I suppose but true.Since I don't need the space I don't think I'm doing any harm, although my OH might not agree but that 's another story.0 -
No, I can honestly say I've never regretted a declutter. I dislike hoarding at the best of times, and feel that if I have the inclination to declutter something, it is no longer appropriate to my life, and is better gone.
When I first moved in with Mr LW just over 6 years ago, I had a major turf out of my possessions; not only could I not fit everything into this rather small bungalow, but much of it, whilst perfectly serviceable, had very bad associations for me, and I preferred to be rid of it.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I decluttered my wardrobe and got rid of any clothes that I needed to lose over half a stone to get into as I didn't think it was likely ..... two years on I have lost two stone and keep thinking of all those lovely clothes I ebayed or gave to the charity shop and how good some of them would look nowworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

I did that - I had lots of smart businesswear that I used to wear when I was in retail management and a size 14....
I gave most of it (99%) to my cousin when she grauated; she never found a job and never got the chance to wear any of it! She ended up dumping it in a damp garagae and it all went to charity......
When I lost weight and needed to shop...I couldn't help but wish I'd kept it all!!!!0 -
Nope, quite happy with all the room I have created, thanks.0
