baby corn

ive been growing some baby corn this year and just wondering how do you know when its ready to be picked? All the packet says is sometime in sep!

Well, I'm also growing baby corn, although someone said in another thread that this is somewhat of a misnomer and there is no such thing as a 'baby' corn, and mine have been supposedly ready for some weeks now yet when I peel back some of the outer leaves the kernels still look very pale and not yellow as I'd expect so I have no idea!!!

I just hope I haven't missed the proper time to pick as the silks went dry and brown about a week or two back now and I'm sure that's when you're supposed to pick them.

Thanks. I havent peeled back the outer leaves, maybe I will one one of them and see what it looks like. Mine havent gone dry and brown yet.

Then go check yours now as I've just been out and cut one off and opened it up to find all the kernels are dried and shrivelled up so it does look like I have indeed left it too late

Going to go cut the rest off now and check them all.

Thank you so much, i went and checked mine and it was all ready! So ive got alot of baby corn and dont know what to do with it! Theres still some small ones just starting to grow so i will leave them a few weeks.
