Car damaged by my son - insurance query
Hi
My son (11) was in a friends car, and upon opening the door bumped the wheel arch of the adjacent car (he wasn't used to the weight of the door). An unfortunate accident, for which he was very sorry and upset about.
My friend has said they will claim on their car insurance to fix the damage to the other vehicle and the minor chip on their door. I don't think they should claim on their insurance, they will loose their no claims and will have to cover the excess.
So my question is; is this something we could try and claim on our house insurance assuming the policy covers this (will need to look it up), but as both vehicles were off the road and it was my sons fault, is this a viable way to solve the situation? The damaged car will cost around £400 to repair (a tiny dink btw)!!
Any advice gratefully received.
Thank you

My son did this at about the same edge in a car park I think it cost me over £500 in the end. They guy had a claim in with his insurance company within hours who then contacted my insurance company which was not the way I wanted to go, I wanted him to get an estimate and then I could decide whether to pay cash or not.
In the end it went through insurance but I repaid them to maintain my NCD.
So if I were you I would try and pay without contacting the insurance company but if they want to go down that route you could always pay after (a pain in my view and probably a bit more expensive).
I doubt household insurance will cover it but worth asking them.0 -
My son did this in a car park. Put a little dent in the door of the car next to mine. Only cost £100 to get done at a local bodyshop.
I think they're taking the Michael at £400.0 -
I doubt if your house insurance covers damage to vehicles, but by all means check0
