"AN international crime gang has swiped thousands of pounds from the bank accounts of unknowing shoppers."
The investigation centres on Asda in Gosport where it is believed many of the victims had visited.
The ATM machines at the superstore are not believed to be under investigation as victims say they never used them.

CUSTOMERS from three major banks have reported that their cards have been cloned in recent weeks.
Initially, it was thought only Barclays customers had been affected.
At first, investigation into the thefts centred around the Gosport branch of Asda after bank customers reported using chip-and-pin machines before losing money.
But bank customers from Portsmouth have now come forward to say they have been targeted too.
Banks, the supermarket chain and police are all involved in a probe into the incidents and are checking whether they are linked.

May I once again suggest that if victims report these Frauds to the Police & their card issuer at the same time, then the Police might notice a pattern which allows early intervention.0 -
Sister-in-law got stung.
She realised that both her cards, different banks, had been used in China.Much as she would like, she hasn't been!
Anyway, she realised that the only shop where her and her OH had used both cards was ASDA Gosport. When she visited the store the first thing they said was"haven't you seen the Evening News today"
I wish that the powers that be would come down on these con-merchants with more conviction than they seem to.0 -
We are with Lloyds and had our debit card cloned recently after using chip and pin in ASDA Gosport. Luckily for us Lloyds had rejected the cloned card and barred the card until they had spoken to us and issued a replacement.

Jane, I hope you were advised to Change your PIN to something different than the original, or were informed that Chip & Signature Cards are available.
The Consumers Association (Which?), could take a leaf out of the Consumers Association of Ireland's book:
From The Post I.E.
Dermott Jewell, chief executive of the Consumers’ Association of Ireland (CAI) said that banks had failed to respond adequately to the situation and the lack of information was adding to the problem. It has also emerged that consumers affected could face delays in receiving refunds.
‘‘Consumers are very frustrated. They don’t know how or when this happened and how can they take appropriate precautions if they are not given full details,” he said.
