Cavity Wall insuation??

Hi, I want to have cavity wall and possibly loft insulation installed but my OH says it isn't worth it. By that he means the house won't be any warmer hence the gas bills will still be the same. I need help to convince him that it would be beneficial. Has anyone had cavity wall/loft insulation intstalled within the last couple of years? If so, have they noticed that their house is warmer and has it reduced the bills? Also, how did they find a reputable installer?

we live in 1950s semi quite large. When we bought it there was no loft insulation at all. we were frozen. I applied for a grant and got cavity wall and loft insulation done within the same month. 5 years later our windows are always open and when the central heating is on it is never on higher than level 3 it goes up to 8 it relly does what it says on the box!!!!Its not how far you fall but how high you bounce back that matters

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move discussions from the MoneySaving boards if they’re not related to MoneySaving to help everyone find the MoneySaving tips and discussion quicker (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to Discussion Time/The Arms. If you have cavity walls with no insulation and an uninsulated loft, then you are wasting maybe 30% or 40% of your heat.
It is one of the most sensible and cost effective things you can do to your home.
Check with your local council. You might be eligible for grants.
Even if you pay the full costs yourself, you will probably recover this within a few years, especially as energy costs are soaring.
Waste no time and get it done before the autumn.

Duh! Does he have loft insulation material in his brain cavity?:rotfl:
It's a no-brainer! That's why there are government grants for it. It will mean a warmer house and lower heating bills. When it snows, look at the house roofs. Some have snow on, some don't. Those that do have loft insulation. Those that don't are paying for heat to melt snow!:o0 -
We had our cold 1930's house done a few years ago.It has made the world of difference and find that the heating can be lowered by a few degrees. I think it cost about £125 for a 3 bed semi. HTH.0

We had our cavity walls done last year, and it definitely made a difference. Have a look at the possibility of getting a grant to have it done, as I know it can be expensive.
