Hi,
Can anyone help?
I am looking to get my daughter internet access for her PC in her bedroom. We have ntl broadband downstairs, and would like to know what I need to buy (wireless modem?) so that she can have independent access in her room. Both PC's are HP.
Many thanks

If you have a NTL cable modem downstairs with an Ethernet connection* to your PC, what you should aim to get is a "broadband (not ADSL) wireless firewall router" which will be connected in between the cable modem and your PC. Around £40. (*If it's a USB connection, please say!).
Your daughter's PC needs to have some form of wireless card, which can be an internal PCI one, or one like a USB flash drive that connects via a short extension cable to a USB port (so it can be moved around to get the best signal). Around £30.
There are a number of alternatives depending on various things. For example, I am assuming that both PCs are fairly new and run Windows XP (not necessary, but advantageous).
Would you be able to connect a long Ethernet cable through the ceiling into her room? (Would you want to?!). If so, you can just get a "broadband (not ADSL) firewall router", and you obviously don't need a wireless card upstairs!
One good firm to deal with (IMHO) is Broadband Buyer, who aren't the cheapest but seem to give good advice.
No doubt other people will have other suggestions!

Hi John,
Thanks for the response. Its a USB connection that we have. PC downstairs is Windows XP, upstairs is Windows 98.
Do not want a cable through the ceiling.
Thanks for your help.
