Changing my user name

When the new forum came into play back in April or March of this year, something funny happened to my details and my real name was being shown as my user name. I asked at the time about changing my user name but was told this was impossible and if I wanted a different user name I would have to reregister.
I have noticed tonight that a user known by one name a couple of days ago has appeared with a new user name. How has this been possible? Is there now a facility that will allow us to change our user names and where can I find it?

hi there, i have just changed my username as it was being displayed as my name. i sent a private message to martin or one of the moderators and they replied saying they would change it for me. all i had to do was give them 4 suggested names
