i was not asking for medical advice ! all i wanted to know was how long sufferers took in general to get back on their feet !i know the medical side of things and i am aware that theres not "set" time limit for recovery . sorry for thinking these boards could be a source of support ! my mistake, wont happen again !

I am sorry to hear of your husbands situation. I am in no position to help, but you may be intersted that I found a support forum specifically for this condition. Whilst you would need to register in order to post, it looks as though it is a free forum, and would put you in touch with a community of people who could offer you support right now.

Chrissy I thought it weird it had been locked as well but then seems the board guide here does have a few weird ideas about what is medical advice and whats not.
Dont let it stop you from posting in future, If we all got to feel like that the boards would die and the guides would have nothing to do

As a fellow board guide and avid reader of this board, I want to say that I believe Savvy_Sue does a great job.:T
We board guides are volunteers and we help Martin and MSE Webmaster to keep the boards running smoothly.
We do our best to follow the Forum Rules and Martin's wishes.;)
If anyone posts medical advice on a thread I'm afraid the board guide will close the thread. The best way to avoid this is for everyone to read and follow the wishes of Martin which are clearly detailed in the thread:
What is and isn't acceptable on this board

I think the OP has a fair argument here - she's just looking to share her experiences and obtain information (not advice) from other sufferers
I posted a while ago and asked someone about their experience on a particular medication and was jumped upon by the admin with the 'you can't give medical advice blah blah blah' response - I wasn't looking for medical advice, I just wanted to know if someone else had experienced the same side-effects as me
I can also understand why it's not recommended to give 'medical advice' on here but surely a disclaimer at the beginning of each thread would make a difference
I dunno, I'm no expert on here but it seems you can give advice on a dogs sore ears, a child's aspergers, mechanical/car problems etc but the slightest mention of an 'illness' deems a "you can't post that here" response0 -

As a whole board guides DO do a good job and I thank them for that but in this case (and many others) NO MEDICAL ADVICE was sought - just requests for others own experiences.
I had a thread locked a while back when I asked what other alternative therapies people had used in conjunction with a medical complaint - I hadnt asked for medical advice at all.
I would suggest that perhaps board guides read the posts properly before locking or deleting and if they dont have the time to do so may I suggest more board guides?0 -
Even with disclaimers there are liability issues though.nothing to see here, move along...0

I'm not meaning to criticize the board guides here:), but I just wanted to say that exactly the same happened to me. It's not nice to see your thread suddenly with a big 'locked' sign on it!frugallass wrote: »I posted a while ago and asked someone about their experience on a particular medication and was jumped upon by the admin with the 'you can't give medical advice blah blah blah' response - I wasn't looking for medical advice, I just wanted to know if someone else had experienced the same side-effects as me
Sometimes you just want some general feedback/support from others who may have taken xyz medication, or had such-and-such a treatment, just to give you some perspective.
There are as well threads which don't get locked, even when someone really is seeking medical/dental advice..
But I guess the bottom line is, this is a money saving website, and Martin has his reasons for not wanting a board to stray into medical discussions.0 -
As it says whenever we make a Board Guide kind of comment
If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.
I know the OP wasn't asking for medical advice. That didn't stop other people starting to offer it.
And at the risk of being shot down in flames, I am going to lock this thread - with apologies to the OP, it's nothing personal - and suggest that the place for the OP to get support is the pancreatitis forum, and the place to discuss what is and isn't allowed on the various boards is on Forum Policy and Rules.
