Lifting carpets to put in hi-fi cables?

I need to run cables for my hi-fi, (speaker, aerial and LAN) which I reckon I can squeeze under the carpet by cutting back the underlay at the grippers.
BUT I'm worried if I lift the fitted carpet it'll never look right again.
Anyone tried this - should I buy a 'carpet kicker' to help reseat the carpet?

If you pull the carpet up in the corner and make sure when its folded back it is in a round shape,do not fold it flat or you will have a crease.Run the cables inside the gripper as the carpet will have nowhere to go if you put them outside. If the cables are thick/bulky you can cut the underlay so they fit,a bit of sticky tape every so often will keep them in place. The carpet can now be put back, you can use a decorators filling knife or something similar to do this by holding it against the skirting board and pushing down.
Sorry if this sounds a bit blunt but cant really find another way to describe this.

when we make window openings into patio doors we fold the carpet back as described above to protect when putting it back i use a wedge made of 3x2 timber to push carpet back on to grippers this works fineif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0
