RSS - Newsreader

I realise I'm way behind the times but I've just become aware of the RSS facility.
What is the best newsreader programme I should consider, and is there a freeware option. I currently use Both IE and Firefox for access to the web. From what little I know I have been told that I don't need a newsreader if I use firefox all the time, but I'm not sure enough yet if I should stop using IE.
Any help would be appreciated.

Also it integrates very nicely with Outlook, if you use that as your mail client (not Outlook Express).

I love my little Firefox Sage plugin.
I change the setting to not show the feed summary in the main area so I can click on the headline of a story and see it fully.
Here's a little flash I made - I made it to help me learn the flash software so it's rough and doesn't go into detail
There are a few online RSS readers appearing but they are in beta and aren't fully ready yet -
Google also brought out this online reader last week but they've been overwhelmed and it can get quite slow.
www.google.com/ig
www.start.com
both display RSS feeds as part of their function.
There are lots and lots of reader nowadays but they all come pre-loaded with a lot of junk0 -
try feeddemon
comes with loads of rss feeds already set up for you.
has tabbed browsing very customisable and fastDig inside; inside is the fountain of good, and it will forever flow, if you will forever dig.0 -
I use bloglines which is very simple and loads into your firefox/Ie window.

Any help would be appreciated.. Click this, then 'Subcribe to rss...' and select a folder to create the live bookmarks in. You now have a set of bookmarks which update automatically as new stories come in, and which you can click to open the page in your browser. If this is a bit too basic for you the Sage extension mentioned by sra provides better integration with FF.
For a standalone newsreader, I use RssReader.
frak - I agree, FeedDemon is great, but it's $29.95 after the 30 day trial period.0 -
Just found GreatNews:
http://www.curiostudio.com/feature.html
which doesn't need to be installed. You can run it from whater folder you unzip it to
Too late to give it a proper look. But it looks very good.0 -

I also use Bloglines. Its great for RSS feeds especially if you use different computers (i.e at work and at home)."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
