Ask a CCCS counsellor a question

Hello:
After living with personal debts of £11,000 and in the last five years being able to secure permanent employment has been slim to none and now considering the current economic climate, I have therefore decided I wish to clear all my debts through bankruptcy. I have read the law on this matter. I understand the law. And my feelings are clear on this matter. I have no qualms as I've attempted to do the "decent" thing and with met with humiliation and rejection. (something, I'm not going to explain myself.) My only question is this please: Considering I do not have the five hundred pounds required to declare bankruptcy, is there an alternative route or some kind of funding available? Thank you.
Hi robgazi,
If you are not currently working, it's likely you will qualify for £150 discount to the fee by filling out an EX160A form (available from your local County Court). This would mean you would only have to pay £345 for your bankruptcy.
You could also attempt to apply for a non repayable grant for the remainder of the amount depending on your utility providers. Many utility companies provide grants, although they do tend to have a limit on how much they can pay out each year so it's never guranteed that you will get one. Details can be found here
Hope this helps,

It then explains the options available for your situation and gives advice on dealing with your creditors.
We have a Debt Remedy team here for any further advice you require,so do let us know if you have any other queries.
Hope you find it useful!

Most of my student loans have been transferred to a company called Thesis recently - don't know if that makes a difference?
Thanks!
Hi wehateourdebt
It would really depend on the type of student loan you have. You would need to contact our DMP department regarding this.I will PM the number for you.

Can I just ask if payday loans can be added onto a DMP?
Thanks!
Hi craigp
Yes, they can be added to your DMP.
As long as the debt is unsecured which they generally are.

I am on a self admin dmp. Can a credit card company that I have a default on ask me to send them a copy of all the other defaults that I have from my other creditors as I thought that they can just look at my credit report. I have four credit cards and have defaulted on three of them and the other one they have put me on a payment plan.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

Why does the creditor want you to send copies of your defaults? As far as I'm aware, a creditor must have permission from you to check your credit report. So if you don't want to send them the information you're certainly not obliged to do so.

I've underwent counselling for the past 5years and I'm now ready to sort out this issue. I've already requested copies of proof of debts from some of my creditors, as i can't remember and have no documentation of 2 of the disputed debts. What do I do? My debt totals around £14-16'000 and my DFD repayments are £243 a month.
Hi there.
When entering an IVA you agree to pay a set payment over the 5 year period (subject to any changes should your situation alter over the period). On that basis, I'm unsure why you feel you've managed to overpay your debts?
Or do you feel you've paid money towards debts that you now feel you didn't owe the money in the first place?

The credit card company want me to send them proof of the defaults before they can start a payment plan with me. Thats what they are saying anyway. I have not sent the information off to them though.
They must think that I am telling them a load of old tripe or something. I also think that it is another way for them to drag their heels and not tell me or not if they have accepted my payment as a long term arrangement.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot
