if you even have a video that works you need a tv licence. bascially if you can recieve the signal thats enough, if you cant watch it then thats ur own business. As far as i know, and i dont make up these insane rules either!

the Beeb boast about how they broadcast in the USA, yet we are paying for it! They make revenue out of this, we still pay.

What are you referring to? By law, the BBC is not allowed to use licence fee income to fund channels outside the UK, if you're talking about BBC America.

    Hi Dan
It might be BBC America, I just remember hearing Chris Moyles one time.
    So what's the difference?

BBC America is paid for by adverts, so it's not costing UK licence fee payers anything. Interestingly (sort of) it doesn't just show BBC Programmes :)

Still find it interest they can advertise in th U.S. but if it's suggested here, some big-wig says they can not, for what ever reason.

Please read what it says on the TVLA website !!! -- you only need a licence if you watch or record live TV

You can own as much TV equipment as you like - if you don't use it you don't need a licence !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope I don't get flammed here, but in searching for an answer to my question came across the website below. Not sure I follow all the maths and I would have thought if big bad advertising company could no longer use tv, they'd still spend at least some of that money on alternatives such as newspapers, radio, etc.

Interesting to see some figures on this subject, and some fairly sensible comment to go with it.

I'm not too sure of the accuracy though, BBC1 - 4 get costed, but only ITV1, AND I really wish I was only paying nice Mr Murdoch 16.8p a day !

I came across another interesting take on this subject earlier today. Gordon Brown is trying to get the TV Licence classified as a tax. He can then include the revenue in his GDP figures - he puts the licence fee up and then claims he has increased GDP - brilliant !
