:D re snails gordon ramsey cooked them last year on the f word i think, there is a clip on youtube
i've just watched it.right...first 2 days starve them, keep washing them. day three give them a chopped up carrot carrot, leave a couple of days until droppings turn orange. these steps are needed to purge them from anything nasty they've eaten. then put in jar in fridge to send them to sleep before cooking. then cook as per your fav recipe

I'm really enjoying this thread and all the tips...ashamed to say I have been rather a lurker on this board for 18 months and not many postings contributed so far.

Here in SW france they are mad for the snails. All the girls from my keep fit class were swapping Homegrown/Homecooked Snail Tips last week, they couldn't believe I had never tried one, and am not intending to!

Aside from the slimy issue, I think you would need rather alot to make a decent portion. I am often seen in my veggie patch at dusk with a tub of salt in my hand, perhaps I am taking the wrong approach?:D

Hi again! the pots au chocolat seemed to work well, and are pretty cheap (although not the best bargain pudding!)

So here's how to make a batch of 12 (check you've got this many ramekins first eh?):

3 packets Asda smart price custard powder, made up according to instructions - 24p
2 x 100g Ikea dark chocolate (cheaper than asda's own brand, less manky than tesco value dark chocolate) - melted.-80p

total £1.04, or 8.6p per serving. I reckon Mr Weezl gets a choccie craving once a week, so that's the next 12 weeks sewn up! :j

Whisk together 'til one homogenised brown colour:eek:! then pour into ramekins or little espresso cups. Chill, enjoy;)

Hi loulou88, and welcome, I've frozen my chocolate pots!;)

GirondeGal and CoD thanks loads for the snail tips. I'm plucking up the courage gradually to give them a go! Mr Weezl said to me, 'I love your cooking, but if you ever give me snails...'
    :rotfl:

ISOM hope you're feeling better soon lass. I'll make you a virtual cuppa instead! :coffee:

The baked beans are nearly ready and the house is filled with a lovely tomatoey, herby smell. Will post verdict later!

  • I have 4 blackening bananas which I'd like to use for baking, but my oven just broke down and new one doesn't arrive until a week on tuesday.
Can I freeze the bananas until I can use them ? Would I chop them or leave them whole ? Skin on or off ?
Oh, and does anyone have a banana loaf/cake recipe ?

Oh how annoying! I'm not sure about freezing, apart from as a banana ice cream. ;) Have you got any cream, custard or evaporated milk in your cupboards?
