Best Prepaid Credit Card?
Comments
-
@JulianCBrown
I can't comment on the Virgin card but. . .
I believe in having at least 2 prepaid cards - as back up.
Maybe it's just me but I hate thinking about a purchase fee/percentage every time I make a payment. I think the £4.95 fee I pay Cashplus every month is covered by the number of purchases I make every month.
I suppose it's just ego but the Cashplus card is gold in colour - makes people think you've got a Gold Card!
Bread Maestro not Mastercard: Not sure about abroad but a Maestro card is accepted pretty much everywhere in the UK - not a big deal if you choose that.0 -
will someone please explain 'pre-paid cards'???
if youve pre paid, then its just like having a basic bank account that youve put money in previously and draw out at a later date?!
so in effect it's not a credit card as you never actually 'owe' anything???
so why is ther eloads of hype it's basically just a 'bank account'???!
are the only benefits the fact that your 'paying' for the privellege of having a 'mastercard' that is accepted everywhere? instead of a very basic account like a co-op cash minder account that somje places dont accept?0 -
Basically yes. You preload it with your own money and can use it like a credit card untill your money runs out and you can preload it again.
There are still some places that don't accept electron online ie National rail (also not in their stations.), Tesco online and Travel Inn lodge to name a few.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
guys what about if you got your partnet to get an additional credit card in your name for you? is this possible? or do they do credit checks? Cheers0

Pre-reg there are no credit checks for pre paid cards as you can only spend what money you put on.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

thanks Tigerfeet but what i meant was if my missus got me an additional card on her credit card account. Would there be a credit check done for me? if not i might as well do that then pay a fee. I know if there is an issue about overstanding but if it is my missus then i cant.

I had a slight feeling you meant that. YOU have an obligation to tell anyone you are trying to obtain credit from that you are BR or you are in breach of the regulations and I think that the bank will credit check anyway.
I'm sure someone will tell me if I am wrong.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Here's an interesting spin-off.
I opted for a Virgin pre-paid card in the end and loaded it with £200.00.
I then tried to pay for 4 weeks National Lottery Lotto games online but my card was not accepted.
I checked with National Lottery and the reason for non-acceptance was that they only accept debit cards for online payments and all pre-paid cards are not permitted because "they can be loaded from a credit card".
What a pain!0 -
