Id have thought you would have stood a bigger chance of getting someone by trying on Monday due to the higher number of auction houses open for business. Statistically speaking I think that would be correct.When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
If it is a sports related childrens charity, why not try approaching other sports people? You have already said that the Rugby "Star" won't do it - but there are lots and lots of sporting celebs - esp in London who would like to raise their profile a bit, I'm sure.
Depending on what "sort" of sporting, depends on the celebs I would consider asking....

how about trying the 2012 Olympics organisation as it is sports orientated. I have a friend who works on the marketing side and they are doing huge amounts of sport related stuff at the moment, if they can't help directly I'm sure they could point you in the direction of high profile London sports clubs who may have someone who can act as auctioneer.

You could:-
Send a few e-mails to auction houses
put an e-mail out on Yahoo freecycle chat if you have that
Send an e-mail to a few radio stations and ask them to put out a request
put a notice on gumtree volunteers
Send an e-mail to your local toastmasters club for a doog actioneer /speaker volunteer
e-mail local football clubs/rugby clubs or whatever sport appropriate0 -
