I am unsure what to give my 6 month baby as he now is ready for less smooth purees as he has 2 bottom teeth and 2 at the top ready to come through any time now.
I have looked at annabel karmel's book but this is not easy a it goes from first tastes then starting from 7 months.
What can he have just now and what recipes.

Now he is six months old you can widen the range of foods that you offer to him. He can now have meat products, wheat and bread, pasta and rice products, as well as the usual stuff he has been having up to now.
There are loads of receipes at heinz on https://www.tinytums.co.uk and at cow and gate https://www.cowandgate.co.uk.
Judge for yourself as to whether he can tolerate more lumps and don't worry too much about gagging as they have to do this to learn how to swallow lumps - obviously not for every mouthful so don't leave him unattended (and I know how easy it is to do this).
As for drinks, stick with water and milk for dental hygiene and avoid juices unless very very diluted (and only offer at mealtimes) and sugary drinks and these do more harm than good. He will not get bored so don't think he will.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

One of the first things I gave my baby after the intital baby rice, was Butter Nut Squash, and Sweet Potatoe, you can either mash it all up or just cut it into lumps, she still loves it now.
Not a hundred percent sure, but I think its cow and gate or is Heinz anyway, if you go onto any of their websites there is a section on baby receipes, I got some great ones.
Hope this helps.NEVER REGRET ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU SMILE:D

I wouldn't worry too much about ages, just go through the various different stages following Annabel's book.
I tended to go through the various different stages, but when I reached about 9 months in the book, my son wasn't ready to go any further with lumps, so we just held back until he was.
Use your child as a guide0 -
the 7 months is just a guideline.
have a look at the 7mth recipes in the Annabel Karmel book, to give you an idea of foods to make. just puree them, leaving some lumps in.
dont introduce too many new foods in one go, incase of any reactions.
my 10mth old DD still hasnt got any teeth :rolleyes:0 -
Hi Kyle,
We're currently on our third child and I would heartily recommend...
Happy, Healthy Baby Cookbook
Like Michaela, we fed ours mashed sweet potato.... they loved it.

i don't feed my baby anything different than we eat, and it has actually made us eat that bit healthier because we don't add salt or suger. If one day i am making a roast dinner he has meat, carrots, peas, broccoli, stuffing and INFANT gravey. All i do is wizz it through a blender and leave a few lumps in. Even stuff like pasta is fine, just make sure its glutin free, or get baby pasta.
There is no point wasting time making seperate food when family food is just fine (lay of the curries though, unless dad is doing nappy.) My 5 month old is thriving of our food, in fact he started crawling last night (sorry can't stop telling people)Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
my baby is 6 months next week, andshe eats more or less what we eat too.
why not our normal pasta by the way?i have been giving it to my little girl.
it does go from baby to baby i think, my little girl is starting to hold things more and we give her sticks of toast and biscuits, she loves it, we cant eat anything round her because all she does is lick her lips, she loves her food, like her mum!!
thats brilliant iwanttosave about your little one crawling shes advances eh?mine can sit up unaided for a little while not all the way yet?isnt it amazing?!!appreciate what you have got x0 -
Our daughter had baby eczema so I was really cautious about what we introduced and when, however she had NO reaction to any of it, ate everything in sight and coughed up stuff now and then when it was too lumpy, but never choked.
We started with the same stuff we'd puree but just mashing it a bit lumpier each time:
sweet potato
steamed pear
potato
carrots
broccoli
cauliflower
parsnip
banana
butternut squash
advocado - forget jars - this is food on the run, in a natural bowl!
For finger food, I found steamed carrot fingers and fingers of banana good, then moved to little "trees" of mushy broccoli and cauliflower which she absolutely loved.
Then at 7-8 months, fingers of very lightly toasted wholemeal bread, some baby pasta, steamed chicken.
As she got better at pincer grip and chewing: peas, grapes cut in quarters (NEVER WHOLE - BIG CHOKING HAZARD), grated cheese lightly pressed into little mounds easy for her to pick up.
The best thing I ever bought was a Russell Hobbs (?) 3-tiered steamer that Argos had on half-price sale for 19.99. It made cooking for her SO much easier - put it all on, come back 20 mins later and you had enough for the next couple of meals. Plus I found I could easily control just how mushy and disintergrated all the veg got so I could either mash it, chop it into easily chewed chunks, or leave it as long fingers to be bitten.0 -
we just pureed whatever we had - made it easier to progress when older as he was used to the tastes & having the same as us so didnt expect special treatment. mashed bananas & pureed cooked apples were favourite puddings & healthier than bought baby food. leave more lumps in as they get more teeth.Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0

ooh, if u give weetabix we found it best to soak overnight in milk & was right consistency, if u add it b4 giving it looks fine but gets stodgier after a few minutes so u have to add more milk. probably different if baby likes warm food but my son would only eat cold stuff, didnt like his milk warm either. he is now a healthy 3 year old who is big (not fat!) for his age so don't think it harmed him! he would live on breakfast cereals & fruit if we let him though!Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0
