home working website "solidearnings.org" - have we been conned?

Hi there

While I work 40 hours a week, my wife only works a few hours a week, and as things are getting tight, we were looking for some extra paid work for her; ideally working from home.

I warned her about those "EARN ££££s from home!" websites and adverts, as often they are a massive con - asking for an up front fee for little or no return.

However my wife has paid £27.50 to a company called Solid Earnings www.solidearnings.org and has just called me at work to tell me what she had done. I am pretty sure it's a scam but I've had a look at the website and it seems pretty professional - but the alarm bell being that you have to pay the £27.50 before they tell you what work they want you to do.

So are my suspicions correct? Have we been scammed out of our hard-earned or is it a genuine offer? Has anyone had any experience with this company?

Any help will be greatfully received.

Mark

it sounds like the pretty common scam of your wife then having to advertise that job again all over the internet and when other people sign up you get your money if you see what I mean. Perhaps im wrong but id be surpised if im not...

grrr that sounds pretty likely - I myself got stung in a similar fashion when I was trying to raise money for my band about 12 years ago. Only back then it was adverts in post-office windows! So if there was only a couple of post offices in the local area you'd earn about 60p for the £15 invested! Nice!

Looks like I'm going to have to write this off as experience - and take our modem to work with me to stop the missus going on the net when I'm not there lol!!

    thanks for your reply

  • If your wife used the paypal link you can claim a refund through them, if you're not happy with the offer. Paypal almost always find in favour of the buyer in disputes.

What's on offer from this is simply commission work, whereby you advertise either the same opportunity or from a selection of ebooks (possibly those in the bonus package of "100 information products valued at over £450" or simply Clickbank products) and earn a few pounds on every sale you make. Whether you can really make any money depends on the quality and exclusivity of the products, but many people make a good living just from promoting Clickbank products.

  • If you go to https://www.allwhois.com, you can search on solidearnings.org. It shows the person's name, address, email address and phone number. Assuming these are legit, you might want to pay him a visit. ;)

Tell your missus to get on this site if she's looking for ways to save/make some extra money!

there are quite a few legit ways to earn money on line, very few of them get rich quick though. Maybe your wife could have a read through Martins article and see if any of those would be of use to her?

    Chris3349,

I'm afraid the only real way is to go onto the Companies House website, and follow the Companies House Direct link. You can search on the relevant company and it will give you the names and addresses of the directors. They do charge a small fee for this (I think it used to be 50p but this might have changed). You can also download their accounts but again you will be charged for this. Seeing as the charges are relatively low, you might want to take this approach in the future.

It's always worth googling the company in the first place to see if anybody else has had problems with them.

I have access to company records via work so I can look this info up for you.
