in Credit cards
Hi I have recently heard about pre-pay credit cards and I would like to get one for on-line transactions. Does anybody know where I can get one, how to top up, how much the card actually costs upfront and if any are better than others? I would welcome any advice and opinions. Thanks.

Hi - sorry quick post I know, but there are quite a few availible - is it for general everyday use/online shopping? There is a quick compare feature here:
http://www.moneysupermarket.com/cards/cardsresults.asp
Select Prepaid cards for a quick comparison.
hope that helps!0 -
Hi All
Just wanted to let you know I applied online for an Abbey credit card last October with the intention of using it for xmas shopping to gain the 5% cashback which would go towards paying off my existing credit card balance.
No paperwork came through and despite several calls and a complaint, still nothing arrived until well into January, advising I had 7 days to reply or my application would be cancelled.
I wrote another letter of complaint advising they took so long, I was charged interest on my existing credit card and I no longer requried their services. I made no indication as to how much interest I had been charged. I also made a complaint regarding the mortgage redemption fee they charged when I remortgaged last year. As a conveyancer, I was fully aware of the amount of work required on the Abbey's part (electronic submission of an END form to the land registrey via a click of a button once funds were received by telegraphic transfer into my mortgage account). I have received a response to that part of the letter requesting further information while they investigate.
However, I received a letter from Abbey yesterday, apologising in respect of the credit card application and advising they have authorised a cheque for £125 to be sent to me for my inconvenience.
Happy days!What larks eh Pip?0 -
Me too! Infact i am applying for one now!
I went to the moneysupermarket website to compare and decided to go with Splash as I wanted a maestro card. It costs £5 to have it. I do however have a debit card with citibank, but it doesnt always like being used and often is declined! After bit of researching it, it looks like it isnt visa veriied ( visa delta).
I text splash to get my code, but nothing has been text back, so i have emailed them to find out why as i dont want to be charged twice!0 -
Hi Guys,
I remember someone saying the Bread cards was the onw to have as it have lower fees etc.
The problem you described with the debit card is likely because its running off the Visa/Electron or the Solo Pre-Auth system. The problem is all Pre Pay cards will run off this system too even if it says Mastercard on the front because its a Pre Pay it will be a Pre Auth. Only way around it is to upgrade to a Post Auth debit card (Traditional Visa or Maestro) or get a credit card as these have post auth.
Hope this helps:D0
