You could try a search using kelkoo etc. in the blue bar at the top of the page. Remember - every time we use them we help earn the money that keeps this site running ad free. :)

My green cone cost £5 from the local council so try your council offices first to see if they subsidise them.

Try your local council as your first point of call. Some are doing them for just £5. My local council are trialling them at the moment and then will make a decision as to whether to sell them, hopefully, heavily discounted.

My friend has one and is pleased with it so im hopeful of getting one before too long.

yeah, unfortunately my local council isn't trialling them so I may have to spend £60. I'm hoping to get one much cheaper than that though. Is anyone else's council doing them cheaply?

Why not get on to them and ask why they are not trialling them. As they have to stop the waste going in to the system.

It use to be if you where under the south glos council you got your composters for free. We ended with two as went and got one from the local recycling centre and then they delivered one as well.

Just got a message from Green Cone. Apparently St Helens Council are now doing them discounted at £45 !!!. Well, I suppose it is better than £60 but I would have preferred one for a fiver !!

Does it have to be a green cone? The dalek type I've got was only £14 - it has no bottom, just sits on the ground so worms can find a way in easily enough - unfortunately I can't remember who supplied it.

Edit: I knew I got it via my council - the offer on the 220 ltr one is even better now than when I first got mine!

    Hi squeaky

I have 4 of these Dalek-type things. Our council was selling them for £9 each, and we were given one of them. I don't actually need all 4 now so if anyone happens to be in south Essex they can collect one of them, and welcome.

Thanks for that although I think the idea of the Green Cone is that the bottom part, looks like a washing basket, sits in a hole in the ground. That way you can put "everything" in there including cooked food, meat and bones etc, even dog poo and because it is underground there is no smell or trouble from rats etc. Then the waste still gets broken down by worms, but no smell. It's not really for recycling for compost, it's to save space in the bin and at landdfill sites.
Don't forget the recycling programme, "No Waste Like Home" is one tonight.!!

So if you half buried a dalek type (which has no bottom) you'd achieve much the same result for less expenditure wouldn't you?

    Just thinking out loud :)
