HELP! How often should a chicken lay?

I am looking after a friend's chickens while she is away. One of the chickens has laid every day. The other one keeps missing days, and hasn't laid for two days now. Is this normal?

Yes, funny things chickens, they do like a normal routine and the same person to look after them. Ours always do an egglaying sulk if we have to get someone else to feed them.
A lot depends on the breed/age of chickens as some can nearly manage I a day when in their first year but other traditional breeds are less reliable and both when they are coming into lay and over a year old they are less reliable.
So providing they have WATER and food they'll be alright and don't worry if they don't produce as well with you as with their regular feeder. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Erm... it's within normal limits... are you sure she hasn't hidden one from you and is sitting on it? They tend to stop laying if they're brooding. But 200 a year - one a bit more often than every two days, on average, is counted as good going for chickens.
I reckon all the chicken keepers, and we have quite a few, will be along with more precise answers on Monday.

Thank you for your replies. Hopefully there will be an egg waiting for me when I go to put them back in their eggloo tonight! I have had a scout around the garden, but I can't see a hidden one anywhere. I will have another check later!
(I was a bit worried one was going to croak on me while my friend was away! )0
