baking tins and containers

Well, decided to have a os style weekend and would like to do some baking for the freezer.

I fancy making muffins (dead easy to do) but I don't have a muffin tin - where can I source one really cheaply? I love lakeland, but I'm not sure that I can justify their prices!!!!

I also want to buy some foil containers that I can use to make single portions of shepherds pie etc. Where can I get these. Again I know lakeland do them but don't want to use the money I've saved on careful shopping and menu planning just on containers!!!!

Hi - i have seen foil containers in wilko's, was a while ago tho!!

Making individual shepherds pie is such a good idea!!!!!

i got some foil containers in wilkinsons just over a week ago, they had different sizes, and weren't very expensive.
As for the muffin tray, i got mine in woolworths, was a couple of quid, but if you look after it well it should last.

I took the leap and purchased the Lakeland muffin tin and the quality is brilliant. Made from a heavy guage steel, it does not twist with the heat and i am sure will last for years to come even with toh making deep Yorkshires in it!

if you want more, tk maxx and tj hughes have good quality bakeware cheap. mostly tefal etc...
got a good tefal muffin tray. the non stick is very handy for getting deep muffins out in one piece.

I have to say, I love my cheapie things but with things like baking trays you often get what you pay for as you end up chucking out the cheaper stuff after it has buckled and gone brown.

The new silicone bakeware is quite good. Nothing sticks to it etc and I've made nice Yorkshires in my muffin tin, and lots of bakes in my baking dish thingy. Expensive to start with but they do last. Asda sell them and they are also on Ebay, quite a few places doing them now.

Yep Asda do some really good ones, I got my muffin tray from there a couple of weeks ago and it cost about £3 and is really good quality.

I use my yorkshire tin for muffins and cakes. It only cost £5 from tesco and is excellent quality. Things don't stick and it's still going well. I know they're smaller than muffin trays, but making lots of small ones does stop a whole batch being demolished in 1 day.

Foil containers you can get from Asda. They're over with the bakeware stuff around the home isle. So that you don't have to keep buying them and throwing them away line them with tinfoil, fill with the caserole and fold the top of the tinfoil over and seal with a sticky label. Don't forget to write what it is on the label.

Once it's frozen you can take it out of the foil container and stack them up at the back of the freezer. I suppose clingfilm might work quite well too for something you want to be able to microwave. Take the foil container out of the freezer and put it in a casserole dish to defrost and then reheat.

Ive been looking into this too, and you can get those plastic ones that takeaway chinese etc come in, I was recommended to try and local chinese supermarkets/wholesaler type places as they are about £1.99 for 10, and are washable and can go in the microwave too!! I also got some off ebay for £2.99 inc P&P, but I already had some cash in my paypal account so got them for £1.39. The foil ones I have seen were in tesco, about 5 for £1.80-odd, so depends on what you exact requirements are I guess.

And Id definately recommend a muffic tin, I tried to cook muffins without one and ended up with a big flat muffin cake that peeled apart where the paper cups were....
I want a silicon one, so im waiting till I can afford to buy one!

Muffins are great for freezing. They taste just as good after they've been defrosted.
I really like the idea of just defrosting the amount I need, rather than eating more than I should. I have some recipes if your interested.

Bit off topic as Tchibo don't do a muffin tin, but they do have the silicon bakeware which if, you as a new customer order by tuesday should get post free.
