Something for the Kids

Ok been umming and ahhing as to whether to put this on or not but here goes.
If the young kids are bored, then give them some old magazines, get them to cut trianges out, put some wallpaper paste or pva glue on it, roll round to make a bead. When it's dry, they can thread onto string to make neckalces and bracelets.
Just an idea to keep them amused - I used too.
Also thought it was a bit of another use for old magazines

We used to make papier mache bowls as kids. Soak well in in water, make a paste of flour and water and line an existing bowl with your sheets/mush. Let them all dry out and then the next day decorate them with our sixpenny painting kits
Flour and water is a whole lot easier to clean off kids than PVA isForgot to say... rub a thin film of vaseline or oil over the dish first to stop your mache from sticking. Oops!

I like that idea scuzz - might just try it on the next wet day during the holidays.0

You can papier mache around inflated balloons too, then pop them when the mache is dry. Just another thought if they want to make something with a bit of a different shape. They can cut/shape them after too.0

We used to make Piggy banks using Ticklemouses's idea - just put the paper mache round an inflated balloon, let it dry, pop the balloon and put a slit in the top for coins. Use an egg box cut up to make trotters and a snout, paint it and voila - a piggy bank!
You can also make puppets from paper mache - just model the paper mache into a head type shape, wait until it is dry and paint it and then wrap some material around the 'neck' and tie with an elastic band.
p.s. we used to make all our glue out of flour and water. We used to call it Bungle paste because we learnt how to do it from watching Rainbow!0 -
If taking a mould off a dish etc. Cover the dish with cling film. Model will then come off the strangest of patterns. The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

I'm not taking part in this thread. I have just redecorated my house!!!
I have found some really cheap things to do this holiday though. DS is taking part in cycling workshops all next week, provided free by the council. DD2 is going to the story telling events all over the town (also free).
I'm actually looking forward to this holiday, wish we could afford to go somewhere thoughOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

If you live near the sea, we used to collect large pebbles (I know this is technically stealing....but from a pebbley beach, who's going to miss a few rocks?) Take them home and paint pictures on them. I've still got ladybirds, faces, patterned, etc, rocks around the house/garden used as door stops, bookends and as decoration in plantpots. Hours and hours of very cheap fun.:j0

Put water in a bucket and add corn flour. It becomes a great paste that the kids love to play with. You could also add food dye to it.0

Buy or make scrap books from old wrapping paper and give them flour and water paste so they can make their own books. (we used to use old comics when I was little and make adventures with the cut out characters)You could use a glue stick instead if they are a bit clumsy with paste.
Make balloonies by printing out or drawing ,a page of eyes, noses, ears, mouths ,beards, moustaches and glasses onto sticky paper(like you get from avery in their free samples occassionally) then tie the balloon to something to keep it still and let them cut out the bits and stick them on.0
