OH and I forgot to account for the new rent payment coming out on 1st July so we are now £550 worse off than we thought and still have £450 of bills to come out before i am paid on 15th.

No money left on credit card (I konw it is a rbbish habit but would have helped this once). trying to see if OH's dad will lend us some money until we get the deposit back from the old flat (will be £425 but dont konw when it will come in) - in schtuck again, sick of being in the red. OH had money left over from his pay cheque but has put the rest of it into an untouchlable bamnk acocunt, which he says he cant talk about but I konw is really his savoings account for my engagement ring!

His intentions are good but could have done with the money this month, now we are going to get chgarged for being overdrawn and bills bouncing. :(

Eek - I guess you may be able to shift some of the bill due dates?...Other than that, I don't know. Doesn't sound as though you can tighten your belts for a couple of weeks, because this isn't about living money, more about the bills that will come out, come what may...

What a pain. At least you're getting the deposit back at some point (make sure they don't keep bits of it for ludicrous things!), so you're not as badly off as it will appear to you for a couple of weeks...

I can only give a stamp of my foot in support of you - we all have those horrible moments!
  • Thanks so much Loadsabob. Afraid the bills are too close to their due date and have started to be called for, so cant change the date. Hopefully prospective FIL will be able to cover us for a few weeks. Will leave on food from the freezer and cupboards for the next week or so, so should be okay 9did a big sausage casserole in the slow cooker last night - phew!)

    Thanks again for the support!

  • Anything you can sell at a boot sale this weekend? or any casual work you can do quickly on a temporary basis - local shop, pub etc? they may be looking for help now that it's holiday time
  • Thanks for the ideas Apprentice, we may be able to sort somehting out for car boot this weekend but would need to borrow someone with a car as we dont have one at the mo. As for part time work, I dont think I will be able to. I am visually imp3aired and dont do well with cash registers, so unfortunately not. I do sell cards to friuends and family but wont be able to sell enough in time to meet the bill repayments. Feel a prayer and a call to the FIL in law coming on - will make him some lovely cakes as a thank you if he comes through for us

  • I think that your FIL would be happy to help you out rather than you get into hot water with overdrawn charges - chin up, it happens to us all and he will be placated with cakes, I'm sure
  • Th1anks so much apprentice, it seems to happen to us more than others at the mo. We really need to start a joint account, we only moved in with each other recently and havent gotten round to it. With me being paid on 15th (how annmoying is that) and OH on last working day of the month, it is a bit of a struggle. Ah well, am thnking positive - have a yummy homemade meal to go home and a load of ironing to keep my mind off it :-)

    Thanks again

I'm sorry to hear you are having a bad time of it!

Have you used the budget planner at the top of the page (downloads a big spread sheet) so you can work out what you earn what you spend and what you are left with just for the future?

My OH and I have been using the site for over a year now I think and have got some great ideas from here, especially the old stylers, they really are the best!

But just cutting back in future... saving for all those special things you want! There is loads of advice people on here can help you with long term. there is a debt free wannabe board they have great ideas for long term strategies! (not saying you are in debt but just being able to put aside more pennies is always nice :D ).

Hope that helps in some way and I hope I don't sound patronising... I'm just really sorry there isn't more we can do for you right now!
oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!
  • Hi Kippsy thank you SO much for your post and I dont think you are being patronising at all! I have bene using a budget spreadsheet for as long as I can remember, btu we moved house this month and paid 1.5 x a month's rent to the new place to cover us to 1st Jiuly, but I forgot to include the new rent payment on my budget sheet - d'oh!

As for the debt stuff, dont worry, we are most definitly in debt and we know it! However, we are hoping to start a family towards the end of the year (I konw some people are going to say we are being selfish bringing a child into the world when we have debt, but we just want to start a family), so we are trying to get debt sorted a bit for that.

Thanks again - I have been looking at the OS board for some weeks now and love it!!

Just a thought. How about popping into the bank ASAP, explaining the situation and requesting a temporary increase in your overdraft limit until the flat deposit is due back (perhaps ask for a three week increase)? The bank is very likely to get stroppy and bounce payments if they don't know what's going on and why. However, if you've kept them informed they might well help you to ride this one out - especially since you can prove that this
is just a temporary glitch caused by a house move. If they do say yes, all you'd have to pay is a little bit of interest, not all those nasty 20 pound + fees for every payment that bounces. The worst the bank can do is say no!

    Good luck,

    N.
