Two questions:
1. How do I copy a DVD onto my hard drive to save myself lugging a bunch of DVDs with me when I take my laptop somewhere.
2. I love my new iPod Nano. I have a few mpeg movies that I'd like to put on there. How can I convert them into a format compatible with the iPod
Thanks

Ok, i have a new Apple Classic 80gb and I use Windows XP.. this is how I go from DVD to ipod
Rip the DVD into one vob file using dvd decrypter - http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/.
You may also want to look into DVD shrink if this doesn't work. http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html
Legal note: please only use these tools on DVDs you own the copyright to
Ok, at this point you could choose to put it on your ipod or convert it to a DivX to keep on your PC. I don't normally make DivX's, so i can't advise on this.
If you want to turn an mpeg/DivX/vob from a DVD into an ipod file then convert it using ipoddrop - http://guspaz.blogspot.com/2006/09/ipoddrop-15-released.html
I can do the lot in about 45 minutes on my pc. Ipoddrop is a command line program, so the easiest way to use it is to add it to your 'send to' list (http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2076/vista_add_to_sendto_menu) or just drag the video file onto the ipoddrop.exe file.
This is an astoundingly fast converstion tool. I can convert a regular tv show in 8-10 mins or a whole DVD in 25-30 mins (if i've got the vob or DivX file already)0
