help I'm being invaded

 Last year we moved to our current bungalow, and noticed we were being in vaded by some rather nasty bugs.
It's that time of year again and they're back.
They are not cockroaches before any one suggests that one:rolleyes:
They're a dark brown with a hard shelled body, no apparent wings, 6 legsand have feelers. They're gross and I'm fed up, we've killed around 20 tonight, and I have to resort to bug killer which I don't like using, but due to the sheer numbers I have no choice. They seem to come in through the front and back doors, when you look out on the steps they are all there, having their little bug party,_party_ and bolt for the living room, the minute you open the door. The problem is worse at night, my neighbour also shares this problem.
So does anyone have any ideas what they might be and any more enviromentally aware ways to dispatch the little blighters, before I'm forced to machine gun them

Vaguely remember some beasties as you describe invading house when I was a child. From what I remember they were about 1/2 " in length or thereabouts - is that the same kind of thing? No idea what they are, got beastie phobia! Could they be some form of beetle? If they are crawling in, perhaps you could try some prevention as you would for ants - powder, chalk, the old faithful vinegar!

Thanks traf, they look similar to th biscuit beetle, but don't seem interested in food. They are more interested in damp, they don't seem to do any thing once in the house, bar crawl around and lurk under things. yuk

They sound like June Bugs - I'll see if I can find a picture. They're perfectly harmless as far as I know...

No sorry sqeaky they're not those either.

I've tried all the various sites regarding bugs, I think, and so far have not managed to identify them. I've never seen them befor I moved to suffolk, so I'm wondering if they're peculiar to this area?

Oh well, I've been round this morning and hoovered up the dead ones, and killed a few more. Maybe I will just have to learn to live with them:eek:

We get quite a few June Bugs round here - and they seem to be darn stupid things - always wanting IN, never seeming to want OUT.

    Oh well.

Have you got access to a digital camera? One that takes close ups? Maybe someone would recognise it...

    Is it these?
    http://www.geocities.com/~gregmck/wlice.htm

if so, they are woodlice. They are pretty common, love dark damp places and don't do any harm. I use ant powder around my doorstep and that keeps them out.
    hope this helps

foreverskint, do you live in the woods? Probably best to have draft flaps put on the doors to minimise their likelihood of getting in the house.

Perhaps you could put some pictures up so that we can help you better.
    I know nothing
