DH has a makro card https://www.makro.co.uk that his mum sent him down, we've been there before but only once, does anyone have any good buys from there? Is it worth stocking up on stuff whilst i'm there ie soap powder, fab cond etc. i just dont want to buy loads of stuff and find out it crap
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

We go to makro occasionally. I got a big box of washing powder (bold) for about £11 it was a huge box and is enough for around 95 washes. We also buy there own brand trays of tomotoes, kidney beans and baked beans, you get 12 for around £2.20 and they are just as good as branded stuff as at the end of the day baked beans are baked beans. The tuna fish is tasty as well. We also got some industrial strength cleaner from there which is brilliant for cleaning the oven and the floor we also watered it down and use it like normal washing up liquid. The only thing I will say though is remember everything apart from food has the VAT added to it at the checkout. It's a good idea to go with a fair amount of money ( I usaually take anything between £40 and £100) becuase we find as your wandering around you spot good deals depends what sort of things your after really. We only go once every 3 or 4 months so the things we buy last a fair while.

Hi Lyndsay_21
I shop at Makros every 6-8 weeks depending on what I need and offers they have on.
I buy all my loo rolls from there (£2.99+VAT for 24 rolls-just as nice as Andrex but their own brand!) Bounty kitchen rolls (12 for £3.50+VAT-when on offer)Nescafe 1kg tin (£9.99 inc VAT lasts us about 6-8months)Washing powder either Daz/Ariel/Persil etc (£9.99+VAT for 135 washes)Lenor 5ltr Concentrated(£4.99 lasts me 2 months)Sometimes buy there dishwashing tablets when on BOGOFF but have been buying these from Lidls recently as slightly cheaper. Also buy their anti bacteria hand wash when on BOGOFF (work out at 50p a bottle)
They always have great savings on the discounted chiller. Last week picked up 4 loaves of Kingsmill for 10pence each, a complete curry meal for one for 99pence.
I personally dont like their fresh meat and find it turns very quickly so I dont buy meat from there anymore. Their cheese and hams, bacons etc are pretty good especially when they are on bogoffI do only tend to buy the above non perishables. When we went last week I also got a sweatshirt for hubby for £1.98, a pair of jeans for me at £3.48 and a top for daughter at £1.77.
My father-in-law shops there every week, so I get him to pick me up any super offers or if I need any of the above and this saves me on petrol and impulse buying

On the one occasion I have been, I found it expensive, unless you find the occasional offers. I'll stick to Costco, the supermarkets and the local markets. Just my opinion - if it's close to you, have a look and see. The things you buy may be cheaper at Makro. It's just not for me.0

Having used both Makro and costco for some time now, ive made observations/studies of their prices.
Costco is definately cheaper, but when Makro put things on offer, they are about the same or better.
costco also costs to join each year.
I find costco food costs more, but is excellent quality. Books and DVDs always cheap too. Plus I like tasting the freebees on offer, and eating at the ridiculously cheap cafe.Anything I write is based on my opinion only. Before acting upon any advice from anyone on a forum further professional advice should be sought.0 -
I'd just like to get a Makro card. Used to have one years ago (courtesy of my friend's business - since sold). Any idea how to get one???? I did go in and ask last year, but they were very sniffy and dismissive.0

Makro have toughened up on cards again. You need to have a headed business paper and fill out a registration form. They will write to the company on the headed paper to confirm they are happy for you to have a card and obviously also to check the paper is bona fide.
Although they encourage you to buy for yourself, they do insist on proper registration.
For quite a while, you could just walk into our local Makro with a card and all would be fine. They have now gone back to making you sign in and will turn you away if you are not actually the cardholder. They also only allow you to sign in with two additional adults although they did let me sign in three on one occasion when I asked and explained why I had three people with me.0 -
Thanks, Bossyboots. Guess I'll just have to hang on for a while and see if they would like my custom in the future!! You'd think they would be glad to have customers, wouldn't you:rolleyes:0

I do most of my shopping at Makro, spend a fortune in the place and love it. My Makro card is the best card I have in my purse. This week alone I have bought an entire range of Circulon 2 pans, frying pans, stock pots etc....worth over £270 for the trade price of £150!
I regularly buy bulk toilet roll, pet food, baked beans, love their cheese & onion quiche, super-large Lurpak, etc...etc...also bought a wicker roller blind for my kitchen today...see an earlier post of mine
Few weeks ago bought a beautiful TV/Video Combi for my office for the ludicrous price of £59! and bought my in-car satalite navigation unit there last year for £500 when it retailed for £650 in the stores.
I love Makro! I save a fortune but I spend a fortune :rotfl:
I go in there with my trolley, no idea what I am going to buy and just shop....it's fun and I finish off with a cuppa and a choccy bar in the in-store cafe.0 -
The other thing we get from there is there burgers thay come in a tray I can't remember how many or how much they are. But I know when you cook them they dont shrink and they are very tasty
and mainly meat then onion. There aren't many additives in them either.
