I love Starbucks. :coffee: It is my downfall.
I have cut my habit down from a big Caramel Macchiato to a small Caffè Latte and I sneak in a small cake from M&S instead of buying an expensive cake in there. :shhh: It's not something I have everyday but it is a nice treat.
Anyway, I brought a v small cafetiere today from Tesco's and an individual sachet of ground coffee to try it out. It was delicious. Tasted exactly like Starbucks, and nothing like the Nescafe Instant I have at work.
So here are the questions...
Any (moneysaving) tips?
I looked at the big packets of coffee. They said that once opened to store in the fridge and use within two weeks. There is no way I can use a packet up in two weeks, and I don't want it to go stale. Can it freeze?
I was thinking of taking the small cafetiere to work and buying a bigger one. Any recommendations?
Also any bargains to be have coffee wise and and recommendations for brands?
Cheers

Well as i am a great coffee addict inc partner, It takes about a good month for us to finish the packet. I put the coffee into a airtight container, and then into the fridge. And it still tastes just as good.0

You can freeze coffee. Split your large bag into weekly sized portions then put them in the freezer. You'll always have fresh coffee then - once defrosted keep in an airtight container as per normal.
I'm not a great coffee drinker - in fact, I wonder how long that bag of ground coffee in the sealed bag has been languishing in the back of my cupboard? Well, we moved 3 years ago, so I've bought it since then0 -
TM is right (when is she ever wrong);) You can freeze coffee. I drink loads of coffee but its any old cheap rubbish. Nescafe would be a serious upgrade:eek:
A little tippett for anyone wishing to downgrade their instant but can't drink the real cheap chicory stuff without shuddering. Just add more whisky it makes it much more palatable HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
Hi Katgoddess
Hubby & I have always been coffee snobs im afraid
When I wasnt so ill about 18 months ago, we used to do our weekly shop at sainsburys at Greenwich and stop in at Starbucks there (is actually in Sainsburys). I always had a large Latte with hazelnut syrup, hubby always has black coffe, then we used to share one of their hot chicken, pesto & sundried pannini...yummy, but at £3.75 we had half each
At home we always have Nescafe instant. We've tried so many others (some cheaper & some dearer), but always come back to the "old faithful".
Anyway, about 3 months ago I bought 6x1kg bags of coffee beans from ebay. I paid £27 including delivery (delivery was £10). We invested in a coffee grinder (£9.99 half price at Boots) and a good quality cafetiere (£10.99 half price at Boots)which actually has a stay warm feature. We have only got through about 2/3rds of 1 bag so far in 3 months as we just grind enough for each day and hubby loves his coffeeSO, basically each bag of 1kg coffee beans have cost me £4.50 each Inc delivery and we are using roughly 1kg every 5 months or there abouts! So thats under £1 a month and we have this daily
The coffee has a lovely nutty taste as most coffees at starbucks have. They have a 2 year long date on them and i store them in my washing cupboard where it is very cool.
Hope this helps!

Hi
My ex-boyf is Italian - and his family used to buy the coffee beans from a local italian place, and have a grinder which they used. The beans kept really well in the fridge, you only need to grind as much as you need, and nothing beats the taste - and for that matter - the cost of the beans were so cheap in comparison to those pre packed in the supermarket!
If you want a free little bag pre-ground for work though - I got one from http://www.bettysandtaylors.co.uk/frame.asp, on the left hand side is a link for a sample - and that did me for 4 small cafatieres worth. Excellent!

You can also buy syrups to put in your coffee from whittards.A little goes a long way!
They sell caramel, vanilla and chocolate. This livens up even boring coffee. We also have a gadget called an Aerolate, which froths up milk to put on top. Yum0 -
Dowe egberts is just over a quid a pack in Savers right now. I don't keep mine long enough for it to go off!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Ground coffee is soooo cheap in France - so if you go there, even for a day trip, don't forget to stock up0
