White Bed Linen

Well, it's more cotton than linen, but it's starting to yellow, particularly around the pillowcase area - and we do have pillow ticks which are spotless.
I'm currently using Ariel non bio (but have switched to Tesco own non bio for grocery challenge) which normally brings my whites up quite well. But, is this where the white vinegar comes in? Or the laundry gloop?
And would someone kindly redirect me to the easy, words of one syllable guide to making said gloop or to the same kind of guide for using white vinegar, please?
Will malt vinegar do?
Ta much.

Where's Nile when you need him?
He used to work in a place where they tested washing powders, he's always really good at stuff like this...... maybe a PM?Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Don't know if this help's much, but if you have'nt got very sensitive skin try using Bio for you whites. As i do, The whites stay white for much more longer ( as in the more wear and tear).
Even though it is not recomended for sensitive skin, We all do have sensitive skin in the house-eczema,and this does'nt seem to effect us, But i do use the Non-Bio for lights and dark washes aas i dont want to be wearing Bio washed clothes too much....0 -

I'm here.
Sorry Spendaholic but my advice isn't very money saving:eek: or 'Old Style' either. I used to evaluate the performance of washing powders and fabric softeners in a research & development laboratory. The BEST powder for whites is Persil.
In the lab, the test cloths were evaluated using natural light and 'black' light (ultra violet) conditions............nothing was better than Persil.
I use Persil (but no separate fabric softener) for all my whites and they last for years. Socks are a bit stiff/scratchy without the fabric softener but it's worth it for the whiteness. I'm still wearing white sports socks that are (still white) over 10 years old!
Heavily stained clothes? I used to apply a range of stains to test cloths, bake (set the stains) in the oven then test with a range of UK and international washing powders........nothing was better than Ariel bio. It's the enzymes in the bio formulation that deal with stains like sweat, blood, poo etc.
For our general washing we use Surf powder. For heavily/difficult stained clothes we use Ariel bio. We also use Lenor fabric softener.
I don't work for Proctor & Gamble or Lever Bros............I'm just passing on my experience. Hope this helps.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
Thanks, everyone. Sorry I didn't come back sooner. I've been at that new job all day and they "watch" your internet activity.
My mom used to swear by Persil but I always used Fairy. Then we developed allergies and had to do some experimenting. That's how we ended up with non-bio and Ariel was raved about by someone cos it brought her whites up great, and it is great on the clothes, whereas Persil wasn't.
I'll give Persil another go just for the bedding.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0
