I had posted the above on 11th May but did not receive a single reply.

I thought I'll update you on this.

I applied for the Sony's American Express credit card from MBNA.
I have been accepted and have received the card.
I have just made a purchase on it and I'm hoping to get my 11,000 Sony Pulsebeats points.
I'm then hoping to merge my Sony's 8000 points with the Amex Sony's 11,000 points.

Myself and wife both applied and were accepted. I have a question or 2 though... Could I merge my wife's and my 11000s? Or can you make up the difference in cash? Specifically I don't really need anything I could get for 11000...
Also am I write in believing that a BT (rather than just a purchase) is sufficient to qualify.

    Thanks

    Hi adm

I also received a card for me and my wife. That means I also got 11000 each on them.

Furthermore I also have a Sony Mastercard which I applied after reading on MSE. I have over 8000 points on it.

I've looked carefully on the Sony booklet and as far as I can gather you CANNOT merge points from different accounts.

I've asked MBNA c/s who said I can combine the actual card numbers. I said that as some shops do not accept Sony Amex I would like to keep the Sony MC.

If they don't merge the accounts then I might have to think of something else so I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime if you think of anything then please keep us posted.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering if whilst on the phone with sony we could access both accounts and sum up the totals...
Is the stuff available only what's online?? I might be interested in DVDs or CDs but they don't have much choice.

I'm glad Martin has followed this tip of 13th June as below.
I had put the same tip on my thread a month ago on 11th of May.
My wife and I have already succeeded in getting 11,000 points each by applying and spending on this card.

I applied today and got accepted. However as I already had a MBNA card I asked them to reduce my credit limit from that card and put that amount on the Sony card. I am only interested in getting the Walkmans. They were happy to give me an additional increase but I have so many unused cards I must have a clear out one day.

Anyway thanks for the tip Martin.

I had a message come up when I applied online that I needed to ring to discuss my application. as it was a freephone number I mde the call and was told all was ok. they did try to sell me the insurance/protection again which I had declined on the website. was told card would be with me within 7 days.
Once I've saved it I spend it !!
  • hey i applied, and was accepted straight away, transfered my balance and going to use it when it comes to get my FREE sony walkman, however when i spend on it i will get charged even if i pay off what ever i spend on it cos the money comes off my balance transfer and not what i spent. so atleast i got 3 months interest free on spending.

Can i, after i got my free walkman, change my card again (do i have to stay with them for a certain amout of time) cos i dont wont to be charged any interest, (didnt fully read the small print) as i only have £300 let to pay off my card and then i dont have any cards with balances on them, (prefer to pay for things cash now cos its taken me ages to get it down did have £2000 owing, didnt think of changing my cards back and fore, until last year.
    Many Thanks
